Re: Back to normal watchdog mode: Woof!

Diana - twilyth be right, courine did not mean it in the way you interpret I can assure you.

In fact she is saying the exact opposite - that she has deliberately NOT done so, so as not to harm the project.

Hi Ady. Please, could you assit courine in explaining what she meant by saying she "could have" harmed WCG, but deliberately chose
NOT to? We would have joined her challenge unawares that she was TRYING to harm WCG if she had moved forward with the

challenges. I still love courine. I can love her but not join in any hurtful ways to harm or embarrass WCG.

Respectfully,

Diana G.

Do you want to know why the "Team Challenge Problem" is closed? I closed it. Why? For the same I'm here in this thread.

I need to see resolution here so I can proceed with the league. A league that would help expand the Team Challenge system and reduce the need for WCG's administration's involvement.

Right now I am seen the end of the bell curve for team involvement in the challenges. I hope that this problem resolves first, before the need for leagues at all, vanishes.

Diana, the biggest enemy this place has is apathy, not I.

Dont worry Courine, at least you have'nt been called "Satan" yet here like I have been. d oh

Diana, I think you just misunderstood Courine. I do know you mean well though.

I'm sure the Techs will eventually get around to the problem (If it can be solved ?). A wee reminder now and again does no harm though.

Hi Diana - the way I read it is this:

Some with multi-core machines have stopped crunching HCC because of the issues explained in this thread - if courine launches the WCG World of Sports league, due to teams competing for position in a more public way, then it MAY mean that more will stop crunching HCC and move to other projects here that are more efficient for their machines and score better in order for their team to do better in the league, which MAY then further highlight the issues to those unaware to the detriment of HCC.

Courine is not TRYING to harm WCG in any way - she is in fact trying to protecting it by not launching the league at this time so as not to exacerbate the problems and highlight it further in a public manner.

Well thats the way I read it anyway.

You have read it right Ady. Now to the next issue.

Lavaflow:
huh, was it not Didactylos that wrote that January was debugging month. Maybe suggest to WCG to reintroduce CPU minimum requirements for Conquer Cancer and up front shut out anyone not meeting the optimal system specifications? If it's not solvable it might be the only option left, but would not want speculate how your 'sheep' will react to that.

Didactylos:
It has been said a few times, now.

I'm sorry they escaped your notice. A "Known Issues" post might have helped, but usually they are reserved for more immediate problems. Besides, it's amazing how often posts in "Member News" and "Known Issues" get overlooked... :-)

Courine:
I have "Known Issues" and "Member News" on watch. If anything there was to be viewed regarding this thread, I would have seen it. Where is the thread you talk about?

Nice job at character assassination, but it will only work on the sheep. You may have said something way back when, in this thread. Now go get the quote please from the others.. Not to clear this issue, but so the info can bee seen in the here and now.

The part about me being a problem is only because I’m watching. I’m hardly dogging anything.

Thanks Ady. Just wondering how this would show up in the results of a challenge that isn't broken down by projects? Results, points and runtime are all generic with no distinction of which projects were crunched, or not crunched, to arrive at the numbers.

Thanks smile

Re: Back to normal watchdog mode: Woof!

A very few people are still trying to blow this problem out of proportion.

Only a few hosts with a particular set of characteristics are affected significantly. A larger group of hosts see a very minor effect.

In the global statistics, this problem simply isn't visible. I am convinced it has no relevance to leagues, either. How could it?

And for anyone who does observe that any of their computers are significantly affected by this, I urge you to switch to a different project for now.

Remember, this page fault behaviour is normal, if less than ideal. If the techs can't fix it, or are only able to reduce the problem, then we will have to deal with that. Sometimes the real-world demands of computational problems don't fit our preconceptions.

Re: Back to normal watchdog mode: Woof!

Really - could you be more specific - which hosts and what set of characteristics. I haven't seen a list of "affected hosts and host characteristics" posted anywhere. Please feel free to point it out if I've missed it.
