It's stupid that we can accomplish the things we have and yet they can't standardize everyday things like credit cards machines, charging cables, automotive filters, refrigerator water filters......

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Shop talk
Nothing new.
Just hoping that ’the usual suspects’ will join and a few new crunchers will find out
they really are Base Campers deep down smile
Let me repeat once again:
The International Team trek begins on Saturday June 9 – or as you please – and lasts for one week – or as you please.
The address is: The International Team
It's stupid that we can accomplish the things we have and yet they can't standardize everyday things like credit cards machines, charging cables, automotive filters, refrigerator water filters......
Yes, isn’t it, acpartsman.
I just wrote Sony asking them what their arguments are for doing this.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you very much for your votes, Base Campers
The result from the count and recount is:
We'll do top40.nl II as soon as I have the energy which I hope will be very soon.
Then we'll do The International Team - flodisar is too busy just now to get his captain thing done

- which means there will be a The International Team II when he has his hat

@flodisar: Don't be grateful.
It's us who need to be grateful. We have a hard time finding host teams these days - even put up advertisements blushing
No hurry, no stress, you have much to see to.
What is your profession if I may ask, please?
And your parents: Are you a caregiver?
Yes, I understand that changing the holiday into a fixed date was ill taken by those who like a day off biggrin
Yes, my Sony phone named Saphir12-Nathalie after la Kraland capitaine
seems to spend more time in Sweden than in my back pocket .. raised eyebrow

Do you think our phones are too weak for crunching, flodisar? worried

I read the trek will begin June 9th, and OMG what a cute badge!!! :)
I do am grateful because the team has been very neglected for a long time, but I have refused to terminate it. It's just the way I am - there till the end. Also I am happy if The International Team can provide you a destination for a trek! :)

My profession:
I am a software developer since seven years ago or so after getting my degree in 2011. I also like computer hardware, overclocking and such. How about you?

Parents:
Sort of a caretaker I guess. Mother has Parkinson's, father has a lot of pain due to a pretty bricked spine and some other general things making him eat a lot of pills.
Putting it this way may give a broader perspective: Before work in the morning I am at my Parents' place. After work I am at my parents' place. I often fall asleep in their bed after work. Then I get home at 11pm or so. Those are my days. But I am trying to keep my mood but because it could have been much worse.

Of course, having a life of my own too would be a nice thing, because not having any close-by friends or partner (except work) when you just had your 31st birthday is...well it raises some existential questions in one's mind.

I see, I hope that your phone gets fixed so that it can spend some time outside of Sweden in a near future.
My phone will absolutely be fit for crunching, but it is a work-phone so I need to get a new one first before I give it a new task. I actually made a project to make an old Samsung Galaxy S+ run without battery - instead being powered directly from a power brick. That worked pretty well. I'll see if I can find a photo of that, in that case I can upload it here.

Have a good night in the meantime!

UPDATE:
I found a photo of that project from a year ago or so:

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

flodisar,

---------
It's good, you're captain of The International Team?

Nice to see that it gives the opportunity of a trek for Base Camp. I hope that it will help your team as well as when they had the Kraland I trek, and that the Team with Saphir12 was taken over.

And then, if you can visit us a little. I'm sorry I was not in Sweden when my sister lived there, she showed me a lot of beautiful pictures.

Finally, nice your DIY(well translation ?) with the Samsung.

wink

flodisar & little mermaid,

----------
I heard about drought and fires in your home. Too bad I can not blow hard enough on the clouds, it rains every day here. I would have made the pass otherwise.

I hope it will get better soon.

good luck

acpartsman,

---------
I answer with two days late ... The difference in rents between the city and the countryside is amazing. When I moved into the village where I currently live, I came from one of the largest cities in France. I ended up with an apartment twice as big, which was half the price. Initially, I wondered if I was being joked, or if it was a trap.

And I understand very well, the desire for space. It's something that I consider a luxury! I just have to walk 5 to 10 minutes, and I'm in the middle of nature. Mountain or river, depending on weather and inspiration.

However, there is a big city (the 4th largest in France, with half a million inhabitants) that I adore: Toulouse. An opportunity to make a mini-trek?

thinking

Mini-Trek

----------
Toulouse, the Pink City. It is nicknamed because of the clay bricks used for construction, which gives a typical color to buildings. The most famous place is the Capitol Square, which is a perfect illustration of it:

Quitte à être là, observons le Capitole de nuit :
----------
Leaving to be here, let's watch the Capitol by night:

La ville est traversée par la Garonne, qui se jette dans l'Océan Atlantique vers Bordeaux :
----------
The city is crossed by the Garonne, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean towards Bordeaux:

C'est aussi une des villes de France où il y a le plus de ponts, je ne sais plus combien il y en a, tellement ils sont nombreux. Et c'est beau :
----------
It is also one of the cities in France where there are the most bridges, I do not know how many there are, there are so many. And it's beautiful:

Si il y a autant de ponts, c'est qu'il y a aussi le Canal du Midi qui traverse la ville. On est plein centre, et on peut se 'déconnecter' :
----------
If there are so many bridges, it is because there is also the Canal du Midi running through the city. We are full center, and we can 'disconnect':

Toulouse est très riche en Histoire, tellement que je ne sais pas par où commencer, alors, je me réfère à Wikipédia.

De nos jours, la ville est très connue pour être le centre de l’avionneur Airbus, tout en ayant toute une histoire avec l'aviation (C'est le berceau de l'aéropostale).
Et l'équipe de rubgy est très douée, en plus d'avoir énormément de supporters.

D'un point de vue culinaire, le plat typique est le cassoulet.
----------
Toulouse is very rich in History, so much so that I do not know where to start, so, I refer to Wikipedia.

Today, the city is well known for being the center of the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, while having a history with aviation (This is the cradle of the airmail).
And the rubgy team is very talented, in addition to having a lot of fans.

From a culinary point of view, the typical dish is cassoulet.

----------
Finally, the place I prefer, and in what is called the hyper-center (McDo 3 min walk). The Japanese Garden:

Toulouse en chanson /Toulouse in song. Watch it !

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

flodisar, thank you so much for telling about yourself and your daily life which is not an easy one.
Liking flodisar was the first indication of you being a very nice person.
What you told now, is building on top of that. And, yes, it must be frustrating at times,
but I think you have chosen what gives you peace of mind because it gives your parents peace of mind.

'Existencial questions'. I like the wording smile
Well, at thirty conventions expect you to be settled with a partner - at least in Denmark.
Generations back you were given pepper mills - and that goes for both sexes.
Being a 'pepper virgin' was somewhat more stigmatizing than being a 'pepper guy'.
Now this habit has turned into an industry. All kinds of ugly things are put up in people's front yards when they turn 30.

Living an unconventional life allows for exceptions.
You're so young - I think there are lots of good things in the bag for you.
Do you have siblings?

I'm glad you like the badge - in fact I was about to make a new one before I went to bed early finding it a little messy.
Unless Base Camp's Badge Review Committee has something against it, that's what it will be.
We expect to make a The International Team 2.0 trek later - maybe spend a bit of time in Sweden skiing come winter?
With my Sony Saphir12-Nathalie in my back pocket instead of the hospital.
I don't understand what your Samsung picture shows - I hope the smart people around me do. blushing
Hey, flodisar, it's so nice having met you and getting to know you! biggrin

stefada, thank you for the surprise trip to Toulouse love struck
Ever since my early crunching days at UD Grid, Toulouse charmed me.
That was because - as far as I recall - one cruncher lived in Toulouse. He had cancer.
He composed some beautiful music which I'm sorry to have lost.
He was such a nice person. Just like you.
I think Base Camp is very lucky having you as a friend.
How is Urden?

I had lunch with my new French teacher friend yesterday. She had been to Aveyron and enjoyed the peace and quiet there.
In her opinion, unfortunately, people were deserting for opportunities elsewhere,
so I was pleased to tell how you and Saphir12 have a good life there.
Is it so, that 'artist colonies' are forming there?

I'm in. biggrin
Got my trecking shoes polished and I am waiting for other base campers to join the hike.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

>>> they can't standardize everyday things

Everyday things are built by companies. It is in their interests to specially make things for their own products, and then copyright or trademark them. That way, you have to have the right charger, or holder, or whatever. If there was a standard, people could buy the charger, holder, etc. from cheap second source suppliers.
