Good morning everyone.
----------------------------------------Looks like a fine day for touring. Lunch at a sidewalk café sounds great, I'll be thinking of that while taking inventory today. Been a while since I heard from flodisar or any other tem members from International. Lost track of them when most jumped ship when things went stale a few years back. Running behind so I guess I better get going. I'll drop in later with a webcam from Alamoosa.

Probably a stupid question, but how come that webcam doesn't just start when I KLiK you link, acpartsman?
It wants to move in and live in one of my folders, it seems. Do I do something wrong? Do I need to install some webcam software? On our way to Alamoosa we shouldn't miss the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Such an amazing, giant inland sandbox .... ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
Step by step like a staircase – the total run time graph at Team Andrax this morning. According to who has pledged to come (tanner2 didn’t pledge anything, he just came) we have a full house now: acpartsman davwhite5xq7 little mermaid mike047 TLD tanner2 yodap We have no difficulties making room for more, so come as you are. The firewood is on us. Off we go. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison River should not be compared to anything but itself. Look at those vertical walls of hard rock – gneiss - can it even be pronounced; do you pronounce it ’nice’? with very marked and large bands of quartz. Anyone who has the slightest interest in geology will go aaaahh! as if it was the Girl from Ipanema Gneiss is bedrock. The oldest class of rock on this earth. Originally, it was some lava or sediment, but under pressure it has metamorphosed and aquired these beautiful bands of quartz. The bands will wave or form angles of different slopes and tell us that even the hardest rock can be rearranged over the years. ![]() We’ll forget about slippery roads and snow and park at each and every turn-out to take in the sight which is a new one each time. The river is deep down in the darkness and the name ’black canyon’ seems well chosen. It’s narrow and it's dark . Parts of the gorge only receive 33 minutes of sunlight a day. We are at a high altitude. They even warn us of the symptoms of altitude sickness. Thinking of the water having carved this gorge over millions and millions of years … in a material as hard as this. We are at a 7 on the Moh’s scale. ![]() The power of water. For some of you the power of water may be the attraction of fly fishing, so of course we’ll make a stop for that so those of you who like fishing can catch our dinner which we’ll prepare over our campfire. ![]() ![]() |

Good morning and welcome Yodap.
----------------------------------------Not sure on the webcam, it usually starts right up, you might need Adobe Flash Player (free download at Adobe.com) Cam could be offline, that happens sometimes. Great reading, another informative camping trip. ![]()

Alamoosa runs now on Chrome, acpartsman. It keeps showing a rotating circle as if it's loading and not really working as it should. It's 0807 hours in Alamoosa. The sun is rising, they haven't put out the streetlamps yet, and they need to clean the lens. It looks like rails, but Google Maps don't indicate any railroad.
Now it doesn't run. Tried several updates; everything should be OK. It runs on Internet Explorer with the same distracting 'loading' circle rotating. It's 0828 now. It IS a railroad. A pick-up truck just passed right in front of a train wagon's nose. They have put out their street lamps. We must be looking east as the sky is yellow-orange-rose in a semicircle right ahead. You never know if the thing is working as it should, when you haven't been there before. I'll try later - it could be the webcam. Just checked the Team Andrax membership list without finding any new Base Campers. Everyone who joins from now on will be pure bonus and surprise .... Just like the dessert our baker just finished for enjoyment after the campfire trout dinner. We had it at a discount. It says 'Merry Christmas' ![]() |
