Re: Need a few folks to test something on Vista

f.o.a. knreed:

Revert to lower version (5.10.28) gave a hang just prior to the auto launch with an error 2753 (not 2735). Saw this once before. Okaying closed the installer. Manual start worked fine.

Upgrading again to 5.10.30 in Shared User installation option properly closed client and attempted to launch as expected, but for the ruddy UAC message which needed click thru.

Softbooted and on resume same positive experience and a UAC message of course. 1 Job of 4 concurrent completed and validated., all resumed where they left off.

Question: If a little program like SpeedFan can get certification and clean passage by Windows Defender, when will Dr. Anderson pull off this feat, so WD does not report each boot "Not certified Yet"?

Many thanks for pushing the buttons.

cheers

Sekerob, why not find out what the process for Windows Defender certification is?

Re: Need a few folks to test something on Vista

It may not be BOINC on it's own, or will it exacerbate the problem?

Microsoft provides a fix for quicker shutdown of Vista :O|
Sweet...

Thanks to Bink.nu for the FYI on this one.

The Vistaâ„¢ Operating system can experience delays during shutdown if running a managed service that was designed with a ServiceBase.OnShutdown method that does not explicitly call the ServiceBase Stop() method on system shutdown. This update facilitates quicker system shutdown by explicitly setting the service state to stopped after calling their OnShutdown, if the service has not already called the Stop() method.

Note that Vista by standard includes .Net 3.0, when this relates to .Net 2.0. Visiting Autoupdate it was not offered, but that could be because my OS is Italian, when the download is only offered in English.

Re: Need a few folks to test something on Vista

BOINC isn't a managed service (it does not use the .NET Framework at all).
