Here a few Graphics screenshots and a checkpoint tally of the new Help Conquer Cancer. The project at default settings produces about 24 checkpoints or an average one every 4.17% progress. They are helping to ensure that a system restart allows for the science to resume from the last one saved, rather than from the beginning. Do read the Start Here forum Project Checkpoint Saving - How to Minimize Progress Loss FAQ explaining e.g. how best avoid loss of computation time when stopping or restarting.

I'm curious about what we're looking at in graphics. The background image seems to change so I guess that's an image of the current WU. What are the varying colored discs supposed to indicate? It's great to be crunching a new WCG project.

The checkpoints are written at the end of a loop. Each loop filters for finer and finer details so the later loops take longer between check points. This is different from many projects which check point at fairly regular intervals.

Hey Ya!
I rcvd my first task on this project today. Almost like petri dishes growing cultures! Checkpoints nicely, too. And runs at a nice pace! Looks like a good one! ![]() |

Hello,
Today I received email announcing this project: Help Conquer Cancer I downloaded softare (I used similiar before for seti@home, I am registered but I don't know how to attach to your project? many of other projects are listed, such as : einstein@home, seti@home etc... but I don't see your project? what is the name of your project? how to find it in "attach to project" option in BOINC menu? It would be very helpfull if you can create FAQ at your project internet website. Regards, Nenad |

Nenad, I asume you were looking for "Help Conquer Cancer"? Tou have to attach to "World Community Grid" with URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ instead. Sophomoric. I don't know the details of the application program, but I will guess that we have to send back the results from the 23 earlier runs through the loop, so we might as well store the results from the 24th run and then use the same logic to send back all 24. Or - I might be totally wrong! Lawrence |

The fineries of language and the fact that sciences at WCG are often not producing a constant number of checkpoints.... todays series could be 25 and the next 20 or 28.... the moments during progress have to be opportune.
