The Coffee Joy Thread

Oh so desperately overdue, here it finally is: The Coffee Thread, the golden brew, enjoyed by hundreds of millions if not billions on a daily basis. Having visited and even worked in countries where the bean is grown, the variety of 'roasting' selection, blending, pressing, and cooking the actual cup is enormous. Once doing a stint in Adelaide, a coffee house operator there, spend 5 minutes just prepping an espresso and explaining in the most heaviest 'outback' accent it needed to be served at exactly 62C, not higher else it would burn the flavour. I was impressed.

For todays openers, as most any of my days open, the Italian Cappuccino. I like it properly prepared, in American quantities, doppio forte, meaning first 2 doses of espresso.... On that lots of hot milk frothed with the steam pipe, on any good espresso machine, and topped off with some cacao powder.... bwilliant to wake up. Certainly, if in a rush, the next coffee bar on the way to the office is the first stop. Usually 0.90 cents to 1 Euro and held in the hand within "give or take" 120-180 seconds from passing the threshold.

Let us hear of your choice and what part of the day you best like it, what coffee blend you like (Colombian, Venezuelan, Indonesian....) and whatever other rave.

drooling

Rule book as with other 'topic' threads, one blazing report per person a day please. Once exhausted, the (rated) coffee menu will be presented.

What do they say?
Coffee in coffee out.
Make sure the facilities are available.

Baron Samedi, ew! Those things are absolutely revolting. Besides, how can it be "macchiato" if the milk isn't steamed separately?

Yes, I like to experiment with new coffees*, so I bought a pack. Didn't finish it, though, and sincerely regretted buying it.

* Even instant coffees. Life is too short, and Starbucks too expensive.

No, no you have it all wrong!!! wink The civilized way of ingesting caffeine is tea not old ground up seeds and boiled milk!!!!! laughing biggrin There is nothing better than a properly prepared pot of Fortnum & Mason breakfast tea from London or Harney & Son’s Darjeeling from Boston.

(Sorry Sek, I never could stay within the lines when I colored with crayons as a child either. clown )

Dark roast Columbia beans, freshly ground in my coffee maker.
If it needs sugar or creamer, you need to find another brand. biggrin

Of course, if you are in a hurry, those pocket coffees available in Italy are addicting: dark chocolate with an espresso center.

Hehe I knew there would be objection to this. Granted, it's not like the real thing. But I like it, it's quite tasty. tongue

Organic Extra Dark French Roast from Whole Foods Market; bought freshly roasted that week. ALWAYS freshly ground a minute before I make it, French Press style if I have time (or the pre-timed percolator if I'm in a rush). wink

Re: The Coffee Joy Thread

Oh, and Sekerob - the golden brew? Coffee is black. Black! Black as sin, black as night, black as the Earl of Hell's waistcoat.

Unless you add milk or cream, and it becomes a murky brown.

For total coffee enjoyment, I prefer a single estate coffee. Columbian is my favourite, but there are some wonderful coffees from other places, too.

Re: The Coffee Joy Thread

How poetics should be applied to coffee, is best left to the English.... laughing

After consumption of one without additives, the inside walls of the pre-heated white porcelain coffee or espresso cup should (still) show the golden ever so slightly oily haze.... else substandard.

Went for the straight doppio this morning.... while listening to the Beatles ".... it's the taxman".... Always a good motivator for pumping up the strokes per second.

A genuine and proud coffee snob

PS Pocket coffee is only sold in autumn and winter.... melts easily. And as for crayons, at least Dataman is aware of the lines.... LoL
