I wish a merge computers feature like on the other BOINC projects.
By some acidents I have a lot of dead computers here, which shown each as a single system at the different stats sites... |

You aren't the only one that wants this. People (the people that own the computers and and are paying electricity bills to run this project) have been asking for this for over a year. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8489 ![]() |

I'd like to see this feature myself but in reality, it's a minor inconvienience at best. It doesn't change the stats in any way. Doesn't do anything except shorten the list that you or I might see at Free DC.. Then there's the old line about choosing your battles. This one will happen when they can do it or have the time to do it. My personal thing that I'd like to see done is a 64 bit science app itself. That is long overdue and would give this project a kick in the backside like someone added an afterburner to WCG! Every AMD and most Intels sold in the last 18 months are 64 bit capable. My personal take on why this hasn't happened on is twofold: 1) NOT mandatory.Machines with 64 bit OS will run the 32 bit science app 2)Time,effort and probably the biggest issue is then having to have 2 science apps and work encoded for both. That last one I think is short term thinking. I'd like to see a survey sent out to all users asking if their machines are 64 bit capable and then go from that. What WCG might lose might be more than made up by the use of a 64 bit science app.. Just my feeling and who knows, I could be way off on that. ![]() |

Would be nice if someone would get around to doing this. As it is there will be some people waiting a lot longer than usual for some results..... Had some trouble doing a BIOS update and ended up re-installing everything. Now there are 30 WU's out there somewhere that are getting crunched on only one machine. To whomever is waiting, you'll be waiting for 6 more days just for the WU's to start expiring and be sent out again.

I have had the same problem. After a HD problem and a complete reinstallation, I have merged the new computer to the old one in each projects he was attached (seti, rosetta), but I was unable to merge WCG. So the day after, the WCG credits associated to this machine were simply lost
---------------------------------------- Fortunately, my total credit was unmodified. But now, If I add the credits of all the machines I control with BAM, the sum is different from my total credits. The difference corresponds to the loss of WCG credits on this machine. I hope the "merge" computer option will be implemented soon in WCG ![Edit 1 times, last edit by [AF>France] BombX at Oct 30, 2007 9:24:09 AM] |

There's a Start Here forum post with a work around. Provided one has a backup of the actual BOINC install, a restore and subsequent re-install does not have to lead to creating any new device/host on any project. Done it multiple times and still show same number of BOINC devices at WCG.
----------------------------------------I think that eventually the numbers at BAM should converge again. At least, never seen a differential, long as a device is attached to at least 2 active projects and all projects use the identical email account. As for BAM, to this day not been able to add my projects there, they it perfectly lists all my hosts. As for BAM itself updating the project profiles at WCG, an inevitable follow thru question, don't know if they're set up for secure communication. WCG(IBM) is rather big on this and has audited e.g. BOINC itself for security compliance!
