Thread: I need help starting a site that will give away prizes for work units |

I have an interest in starting a site and a nonprofit that will take donations of cash and merchandise from companies and individuals and give them to users that send the most work units or by lottery with 10 units equally 1 ticket. I'm a webmaster so I have some website building skills buy most of my income comes from blogging so I'll need help getting this together. I need a website designer to help with the front page and a graphics designer who is willing to make graphics in Java or flash for items that are donated by each company.
I will take care of getting the merchandise by starting an online and offline letter writing campaign. I'll start with companies like Microsoft and Sony but I'll go across the board looking for help from every company big and small. I'd also like to know if anyone knows of a program that will randomly pick names from a database just like a lottery system. Anybody have any ideas on this? Nothing personal, Mikesinner, but I'll be surprised if you receive donations because I think there is too much potential for fraud, e.g., you keeping some of what is donated.

I agree 100% with Sgt.Joe. This idea is not what WCG is about. We do it for the results returned (and a little bragging rights).  |

Well there will be no fraud. I will be honest with everything and since almost all donations will be in the form of products from companies that must be given to the winners I won't be able to keep anything unless I want to be sued by the company. I can post the stats of my members by doing a print screen and posting it on site.
I will probably have to incorporate this to keep everything legitimate anyway. Once I get it set up and running smoothly I will have thousands of members crunching units to try and win. The benefit of a site like this is that it will motivate people to work harder and crunch more units on more computers. My long term goal is to start my own non profit and have a building full of super computers that are solar powered doing calculations 24/7 I also don't think that most research programs like this have any control over what people do on their end so I don't see any legal problems with this but I will check it out. |

You will need permission from World Community Grid to use their name and image.
Put together a proposal and send it to the support address. |

Get some sponsors, then submit a proposal. PS, make sure they are big, legitimate, and honest in there desire to promote what WCG does, then submit a proposal!

Cool, I'm actually thinking of using WCG and Rosetta stone for this. I'm thinking of going ahead and creating a blogspot domain to explain more about what I want to do and to go ahead and build some traffic and new members to my team. It will be a great way to get feedback. I'll probably go ahead and make a myspace page as well. It will be hard to spend a lot of time on it though because I'm trying to build a lot of business blogs right now as winter is coming and that's when I make most of my money.
I will post updates here so you guys can see what I'm up to. |
