Prior to the internet I remember using a time share application with MECC(Minnesota Education Computing Consortium). It used a teletype terminal with a roll of yellow paper. Had a paper tape reader on the side for entry of BASIC programs. I think the computer was actually at the University of Minnesota. Early 1970's.

First got onto the internet at a friends place. They showed me how to use FTP, telnet, gopher and other things which I forget. Everything was text based. No graphics I can remember. I am thinking this would be sometime in the mid to late 1980's. Compuserve was the king. Bulletin boards ruled. Eventually added a second phone line to the house. Was able to connect with a 56k modem at a whopping best of about 20k. Really crummy phone line. Had a lot of disconnects and retries.When wireless broadband became available, I jumped on that in a heartbeat. Onward to bigger and better things.

A long time ago, our CEO told me, that he heard about a new thing called Internet, and asked me to install it on his PC. Urgent, of course.

So the fun began: what the ... is Internet. I had to find out without blaming me. Can you remember how we found something out without the net?

Well, a month (sweating) later it was done. His reaction: "Ah, this is Internet! Great! And what do i do now with that?"
