Found this post on my local freecycle group (this is non-profit org that tries to match people looking for things with people who want to dispose of them - to keep things in use and out of landfills - see Freecycle website)
----------------------------------------Didn't want to see anyone out there getting sick from this. Alert: Dole recall of "Dole Hearts Delight" salad ALERT: Dole Fresh Vegetables, a division of Dole Food Company, Inc., today announced that it is voluntarily recalling all salad bearing the label "Dole Hearts Delight" sold in the U.S. and Canada with a "best if used by (BIUB)" date of September 19, 2007. The production codes are: "A24924A" and "A24924B" stamped on the package. The salad was sold in plastic bags in one-half pound in the U.S., with UPC code 071430-01038. A sample in a grocery store in Canada was found through random screening to contain E. Coli. ![]() ![]() |

Looks like a good idea - not that I want a free cycle; it's over 50 years since I last rode a bike!
Seriously, though, this seems to be a good alternative to the charity shop; I have just thrown away a perfectly good router, which I would not expect a charity shop to find a customer for, but free cycling might. |

Freecycle is a great resource. I encourage everyone to check for a local group. They even have groups in other countries.
----------------------------------------My mom was almost as much of a pack rat as I am and I'm still trying to sort though things and get rid of stuff I can't use. The clothes all go to Goodwill or one of the other clothing drops in the area. Some stuff I've tried to sell - mostly on Ebay, but I think I'm also going to try Craigslist. But a lot of things you either have to dump or give away. It's amazing how things that you may consider junk are valuable to someone else - and vice versa. I didn't think anyone would be interested in some old switch boxes I had (for switching 25-pin serial, printer, etc. ports), but one guy wanted them and was also able to use dozens of old cables. It's also a great resource for finding things you might need but either can't find or don't feel like buying. You can post an ad for whatever you want and more times than not you'll get a response. When I was setting up my boinc farm, I needed a couple extra monitors. I put up an ad and got at least a half dozen responses. One guy had a car load and was happy to get rid of a couple. It's well worth checking out. You'll be saving money and land fill space. ![]() ![]() |
