No. The allocation of work units is pseudo-random and by chance by the server. And in terms of storage space, the units at download rarely (if ever) go above 10 megabytes.
----------------------------------------But if you want to spend more time processing work units, no problem, play a game at the same time [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 28, 2005 12:11:25 AM] |

Or, you could run something like an antivirus scan over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... or some other thing that takes up a lot of cpu clock cycles, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... yep... even though I don't really suggest doing that... I go for more results... lol

Heh, so I guess you'd be happy with the 106 hour unit I had last week... or did everyone get one of those (I know one other person who had a 112 hour...)

If you want to make your work unit bigger, and corrupt it at the same time, I can suggest opening it in notepad and copy-pasting random globs of code several pages long from a big donor file like a wallpaper or or a really really huge file, the kind of files you find in game data folders. Eventually you will bloat it to gibberishly huge sizes, say 2 gigabytes, before notepad permanently crashes and windows is starved of memory resources, and the work unit will be deleted anyway for favour of a new one on the grid agent.
(This is a joke. Try at own risk, and apologise to the server for giving them a tad more trouble after that. ) Postscript: Hey, I just invented a new benchmark for computer performance: Time taken to open a 1024 mb file in notepad, as this theoretically involves everything from the chipset pipeline to the hard drive to the CPU and ram constantly until all the data is loaded to notepad on-screen. |
