I'm not getting an work on my Mac Boinc. I signed up for all projects and the Beta, and I don't get any work. I've connected manually several times, and I still don't get any work.

Hello Blackbird0,
Could you paste the messages in the BOINC Manager messages tab? This should get us started in figuring out what is wrong. Lawrence |

Those are the messages resulting from hitting the 'Update' button. What was before those logged? Try re-saving the My Projects selection and hitting update (take AC@H off as it is not on MAC yet).
----------------------------------------Does your Activity menu have 'Always Work' or 'Work per Preferences' selected? And no, the Update button rarely will translate in getting work unless your client thinks it needs work. Your personal stats state not having returned anything for 375 hours, so go into the stdoutdae.txt log file and find the approximate time to see something special was recorded.

The first set of messages is from the normal scheduler update, and not from me hitting the "Update" button.
I reset the project, and nothing happened. My activity menu has work per preferences. My preferences are selected to work whenever my computer, which is a laptop, is plugged in. My other projects work fine per my preferences. My stdoutdae.txt does not have records of the last time I had work from WCG. |

Hello Blackbird0,
not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks This means that the problem is on your side. For some reason, your BOINC client does not think that you need any work from WCG. Drop WCG from your project list, then reattach. Look at project weights. If that does not work, start assembling information about your other projects and post it here. Lawrence |

These lines 'always' appear when the 'update' button is operated: Thu Sep 13 15:47:16 2007|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user I'll ask the BOINC developers under what conditions they can appear without user action. Does the last line in your response imply there are other projects attached to your client? If so, WCG is probably in work debt and has to repay other projects, before it will fetch new work. Debts can be easily seen with tools like BOINCview. Resetting will reduce a projects debt, but still leaves other active projects with a residual work credit. They can also be seen by viewing the client_state.xml file. Look for project values like: <short_term_debt>0.000000</short_term_debt> <long_term_debt>16051.122848</long_term_debt>

THese are my debt values:
<short_term_debt>0.000000</short_term_debt> <long_term_debt>-191474777.851803</long_term_debt> What does it mean exactly? Will changing my project weights reduce the debt? |

There are several ways to normalise that value, if you want. The quickest is exiting BOINC, open the client_state.xml with a txt editor and setting the LTD to same as the STD... 0.000000
----------------------------------------What the cause is I don't know. Things like project weight and changes of dates may have done it, but probability you get work after fixing the LTD is something we're soon to hear from you.

I updated yesterday and did not recieve any new wu's for my mac too. I have about 1 and a 1/2 days worth of work but my prefs are set for 4 days. I thought the problem was the newer version so downgraded. Still get errors in the log " Can't rename state file : error -1, couldn't write state file : system rename. Not sure what has changed in the past few months but seeing more problems for us mac folks than earlier in the year. I like doing this but getting the itch to just shut it down for lack of decent mac support. Can't stand stand windoze systems so won't go that route. Tempting to try under VM ware using linux as it seems to be better support for linux than mac. Anyone know if you can run boinc under VM?
