Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

JC,

The last 34 results your computer has returned have all been errors. You need to check out what happened to suddenly cause all of those errors. I also just checked and you have not been sent multiple copies of the same workunit.

Follow the directions above to take a look at your results returned.

thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, this makes no sense at all. It sounds something on WCG's side of the fence.

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

JC,

BOINC has a mechanism that will limit the work sent to a computer that is returning nothing but errors. Starting at 11 Sep 2007 23:35:38 UTC your computer has returned nothing but errors - 34 consecutive errors to be specific. Because of this high level of errors that your computer is returning, the server is limiting the work sent to your computer. Once your computer starts processing workunits correctly again, the limit will be automatically lifted and you will be able to get workunits freely again.

Kevin, sounds like a possible Boinc issue in the code. Mainly it has (#1) a poor mechanism for keeping proper time progress when you stop it to for whatever reason (doing an image flash for example). And yes, these work units can really defrag a partition to an amazing degree (I run Diskeeper 10 Pro).

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

JC, no machine from 1 second to the other starts cycling work units and exits them virtually immediately upon loading, hence the 0.00 time reported.

Now, the jobs WCG runs are RAM intensive. It is very well possible that your RAM in the higher regions went wonky. Suggest you run some utilities like memtest86 to see if they pass.

And please, don't run disk-defraggers while crunching. They do corrupt things, so is my negative experience with several like Wins own, Perfectdisk and UltimateDisk. Not even in background or low priority.

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

JC - I had this problem (all error WUs had 0.00 hours). A reboot fixed it - you said you were going to shut down your PC last night....did you?

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

Yes, I shut down my PC last night. Well, I will run memtest86 this weekend as this is my work PC. I always snooze Boinc when I defrag.

Could be a HW error on my PC. Will check that out ... crying

Thx all.

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

I ran memtest86 V1.07 for only just over an hour. After a WallTime of 25:23 minutes, it showed 18 errors. After about 70 minutes, it showed 20 errors.

5 tests were completed. I think all the errors were in cache 2 (L2). Is that too many errors to make a big difference?

Re: Asleep at the Wheel?

L2 cache is usually build into the CPU. OCing may have burned your CPU? At any rate if you have not a single good WCG results since, I, a none tech, would think you've fried your cruncher.

Sekerob my friend, that would be bad advice. Several possible reasons to search / test for. I already have sent two valid results and one error which was really "hen pecking". I took a screen shot of it.
