boinc on linux: major decrease in perfomance after a few days

Hi,

I'm running boinc on linux, configured to use 2 cores (out of 4). It is always the case that after a few days one of the two running projects stops running.

Looking at the console reveals:

(boincmgr:7593): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_remove: assertion `GTK_IS_TOOLBAR (container) || widget->parent == GTK_WIDGET (container)' failed

Thanks,
Mickey.

Re: boinc on linux: major decrease in perfomance after a few days

That is a BOINC Manager error, and as such shouldn't affect the core client.

The place to start looking is the message log.

I see it is a GTK error, and I also did not gave it any attention. However, after seeing correlation between that error on console and the reduction to 1 process, I though I better write it here.

I don't know where are the logs located.

I'd think in the BOINC data directory, wherever that is on Linux. think of data directory as the place where the programs are residing. The main log is stdoutdae.txt, but there are a few more.

And, here is some time later, something weird that I've found:

2007-09-08 07:07:58 [---] Resuming computation

Why would those benchmark results say I have only 2 cpu's? Those are an uninitiated benchmarks - I never called for them.

Re: boinc on linux: major decrease in perfomance after a few days

hello mixi,
Why would those benchmark results say I have only 2 cpu's?
I think you answered that in your first post:
I'm running boinc on linux, configured to use 2 cores (out of 4).
So I would expect it to benchmark just 2 cores. Since they are all the same type of core, multiple benchmarks are not needed, but BOINC is general purpose and does not take that for granted. BOINC runs the benchmarks at boot and once every ?5? days. So that is as expected.

The interesting point is the area in the messages where the GTK error occurs, after which you only run on one core.

Re: boinc on linux: major decrease in perfomance after a few days

Mixi, 4 or 2 or 1 core, you need to visit the log file to find the error. Post that and what went on before and after.

Off-Topic, the Benchmark is run:

1. New install
2. Version Upgrade or Downgrade
3. Every 5 days on core0 (from 5.8.15)
4. When the system time changes significantly, forward or backward
5. If number of cores change.... the problem you have!

6. (Not confirmed), when new CPU is detected, and if not it should.
