Crunchers

Are there a lot of people crunching this project? I'm just curious because the the minimum requirements are:

At least 256 MB RAM (with virtual memory enabled)
1 GB Hard Disk Drive space available for use
The ability to display 8-bit graphics at 800x600 resolution
An Internet connection with minimum 756 kbps speed
Operating System: Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP

and not too many people have a minimum internet connection of 756 kbps.

Re: Crunchers

there are in the first run only 82 workunits which were send out in initial distribution of 10 i.e. 820. Some will have received 1 unit, others multiple, so effectively there are not a lot of people actually working on it. Per WCG 1/3 of the BOINC systems qualify hardware wise and network speed wise. That's thousands.

When do you anticipate releasing more workunits? Things seem very slow now in terms of picking up more work (I have completed one unit but would like more! ;)

Thanks! :)

Re: Crunchers

Hello martianmoons,
I don't know when they will add new simulations to run, but you can see what has been done yesterday by selecting Statistics - By Projects - AfricanClimate@Home ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=acah ).

Re: Crunchers

Looks like yesterday the first quorum was validated. Before it showed zero. What coincidence, expect the result numbers to always show in increments of 10, unless a 'no reply' copy is returned before a backup.

Re: Crunchers

How many replications where there in the work unit? (the 'initial replications' bit, just below the quorum size of 10).

One workunit I did is up to 54.

Re: Crunchers

Are there currently any WUs being distributed?

I have included this in my list of projects, yet don't seem to be getting anything to work on. I more than meet the computer requirements, including 5100+ kbps download speed and 1600+ up. All other system requirements are well within the capabilities of my computer.

Just wondering confused

Re: Crunchers

Uplinger said here they were releasing a new version of African Climate @ Home in beta again first, and then moving it to production (due to errors in the previous version):

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16235

I don't think it's been released in beta yet though:

Beta Testing Project Statistics
Yesterday:
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) -:---:--:--:--
Points Generated 0
Results Returned 0

Also remember that there is a very limited number of WUs for the first phase of this project; 820 if I recall. So don't be surprised if you don't get any WUs for this project for a while.
