confused Agent aborts

I notice that sometimes after a reboot, my WCG Agent thinks it's been enough and starts sending the results back to the server, even though it was nowhere near completion just before the reboot.

At first, I thought it was just an "aborting" WU. (That is, if I remember correctly, some WUs produce inconsistent results, which are valid results in themselves.) But it happens so consistently immediately after a restart that I suspect that something's going wrong. Which is a shame, because now I am returning invalid results, so these WUs must be sent out more often.

Moreover, it seems that after such WUs abort, my agent wants to download a new Rosetta: the download is ~4.5MB instead of the usual ~1.0MB and a new directory ud_126863_0.dir.x is created with another instance of WCGrid_Rosetta.exe. I'm not sure about this, but I think that WCGrid_Rosetta.exe is the only file in such directories, i.e. other files seem to have been deleted. (I'm still figuring out what's happening exactly...)

On a sidenote: at first, I suspected that UD monitor had the Evil Eye, because this happened after I installed UDmon. But I have uninstalled UDmon several weeks ago, and it still happens. BTW I also uninstalled and re-installed the WCG agent.

Any ideas about either the cause or a solution or more information that I can supply? Thanks.

cool Re: Agent aborts

The only possibility I can think of would have been cured by a reinstall. So, I guess the thing to do is to ask about your OS and security programs. Also, I should ask if you have run any spyware/virus checks on your system since this started? Does this happen if you run a manual 'Exit' on the Agent before shutting down? Have you looked at your firewall logs lately? What does Task Manager say?

Sorry I do not have any helpful ideas, but if nothing turns up I am even going to start wondering about hardware glitches. [The ever-useful fallback position for useless customer support people - - Grin]

Re: Agent aborts

Have you had any problems with your system clock ?

If you download a WU and the elapsed wall clock time has elapsed, the agent will abort and ask for a new WU.

I would uninstall WCG and then try to a registry clean to make sure that no trace of it still exists (as well as any trace of UDMon). Then I would reboot and try to install the agent again.
