Many suggested Google's Calendar, so tonight I downloaded their sync program, installed it, and synced. It immediately bombed out with this lovely error message: "Error Code 2016." So I went to Google and googled Google's calendar help site. Many have had this problem, but no one had an answer. No help from any Google staff, either. I even uninstalled and reinstalled. No luck. Same error. The search continues...
Tip: When you go to a web site full of links, don't scan all those words looking for the one you want: just type the text and Firefox will take you right to it. As soon as it's highlighted, press Enter, and you'll activate that link. For example, tonight I was investigating Google's Calendar. I went to that "all the other stuff Google does" page which is full of links. But rather than reading them all or looking for an icon, I typed "cale" and Enter and was taken there within a second. If your Firefox doesn't work this way, go to Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility and add a check mark beside "Search for text when I start typing." |

For overclockers or anyone wanting to throughly test the stability of their system to include the CPU,HDD.,etc there is Passmark - BurnInTest. This might help to know if your CPU or memory is making mistakes on work units being sent back to the WCG.

Many of us use AVG Free from Grisoft as your free anti-virus program but be careful: if you install AVG 8, it wants to install AVG Security Toolbar (with integrated Yahoo search box no less!) but with that comes a snoop program called LinkScanner, whether you want it or not. LinkScanner gives your IP address to Grisoft every time you search for something and what you searched for (so that they can sell that info to sites? who knows?). Turn it off by double-clicking the AVG icon in the system tray, click Tools > Advanced Settings > LinkScanner. Then, on the right, uncheck Enable AVG Search-Shield. Click OK and restart your browser, and your AVG Free will be free.

As I understand it, Mark still owns all the rights to the programs on this site (or the ones developed before he joined MS anyway). I'm sure it's a little more complicated than that... we all know how complex things get when attorneys / lawyers get when it comes to Intellectual Property laws. |
