COMMUNITY PROJECT IDEA

We should have an active agenda amongst internet users to get every country represented by at least 1 machine. We can fill in the map more specifically.

its a little more work but not a lot to make the continents clickable linking to a submap with provincial boundaries (like states) and their registered data.

The idea is simple. We get users who speak another language to strive for at least 1 computer in EVERY country without current representation.

Prime example: While Africa may have some computers, maybe Madagascar specifically doesn't have any yet. 3rd world countries may not have abundant technological resources yet but that doesn't mean the resources they have cant engage in first world technology.

Re: COMMUNITY PROJECT IDEA

Hi,

Here 's a view of all time points by country. The interesting thing isthe very large number for members that never entered a country. Some can't, but surely most of the anonymous could. Maybe there should be a country called Gaya or Gondwana or simply 'United Nations'. Curiously you mentioned Madagascar and they do have representation like 211 other countries do or did. Yesterday members of or in 155 countries contributed to WCG.
cheers

Re: COMMUNITY PROJECT IDEA

Lets be hypothetical for a moment.

Team X consists of one American, One Englishman, and a Belgian..
Question ..Which Country should team X link to?

What we do need, and I have said this before, is an "International" setting. Lets face it, it's people who are crunching, not countries!

take care!
Ted

Re: COMMUNITY PROJECT IDEA

Ted,
What WCG shows (from a statistics viewpoint) as "anonymous" is shown as "International" in BoincStats which has associated the United Nations flag to it. I am not sure that it is exactly reflecting the absence of information of those teams or members but, personally, I prefer that way of showing it.

Cheers. Jean.

Anything is better than offending another team member by not choosing his/her country! - Better by far to do as the Edwardians do, show none! wink (apart from the flags in our sigs that is! devilish )
Thanks for your comments Jean

I'm not crunching for MY country, so I have intentionally NOT selected a country.

I like the idea of Gaya or even Earth. Even Tron would be better than United Nations -- to keep it away from political organizations.

I'm afriad I'll be assigned to Neaderthals !! wink

Reunite Gondwanaland. Stop subduction NOW!

There are also members that refuse to join a team, so matching team points are wasted. Oh well.
