Adding Laptops

I just registered my desktop computer and it's happily computing away. I have two other computers that are available, both laptops. I can't figure out how to download the software to those computers. Do I have to separately register each computer with a unique user name to get the job done?

Re: Adding Laptops

Nope.

Log into the site on those computers, and you can download the software without registering again. Use the same username and password when you install the agent.

.... and please while installing and connecting the software, do not overlook that little box just before the field where to enter name and password to indicate you are an 'exisitng member'. That will walk you right in.

sad Re: Adding Laptops

Yeah, thanks, I figured that out. But my wife's laptop (Dell Inspiron 5100 bot new in Dec. 2004 running XP) kept crashing so I had to uninstall the grid software, sadly. sad But at least we have two computers that are happily crunching away. Any suggestions? I tried changing preferences (processor and hard disk allotments), but that didn't work.

Re: Adding Laptops

Without knowing more about the OS, memory and disk space, perhaps that laptop just got too hot for comfort. Airflow in most of them is poor for extended use.

Simply raising it on a metal pie rack, getting one of the thermal fan coolers to sit on and/or opening all of the drawers/ports can possibly help.

There's a BOINC throttle, but it's rather rough and not as smooth as the old UD throttle. Some have managed to make BOINC slow down with Threadmaster, but it's a techie solution. My desktops run at 100% 24/7 so I don't worry about it here.
