Just for the record Minnesota does not have the death penalty. I believe we abandoned it about 1910 or 1911. Please do not be so quick to tar all Americans with the same brush. Some of us would like to make the country better, but better has a different meaning to many people.

Cheers

Re: Why do the graphics for Dengue have to be so political?

We ask you to have patience with us at this time. The effect of the student writings has definitely not had its intended impact. The time since the launch of the Dengue project has been spent getting AfricanClimate@Home launched. Next on our list is dealing with the workunits on DDDT that are failing (which up until Friday were very infrequent but they have been occurring more often now). Following that will be getting AfricanClimate@Home running on Mac and making decisions about possible changes to the Dengue graphics.

As for why the writing came from a middle school in Houston, TX - the answer is that the Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together project has as the primary investigator researchers at UTMB in Galveston, TX only 30ish miles away. Read what the researchers themselves say about the writings: http://www.utmb.edu/discoveringdenguedrugs-together/Student_Writings.htm

and making decisions about possible changes to the Dengue graphics.

knreed - Is WCG considering any graphics standards for future projects? Will the members be given the opportunity to comment on any proposed standards - or any decision not to impose standards?

I hope that by this point WCG understands that any graphics that could even be considered arguably controversial should be avoided and that the previous de facto standard of limiting graphics to docking diagrams and calculations was universally unobjectionable - making it a leading candidate for becoming the de jure standard.

You can't extrapolate the attitudes of a couple people to an entire group. And I don't think you can say that WCG as an organization has an "in your face" American bias. The graphics for the DDDT were, in my opinion and that of many other members, an unfortunate oversight. I'm sure neither the WCG staff nor the project scientists meant anything by it. Obviously I can't really speak for anyone else, but I don't think I'm going very far out on a limb by saying that.

You also have to realize that only a tiny percentage of people who run either UD or boinc for WCG even ever visit these forums. What's important is the work that's being done. That will benefit everyone. You have to be able to look past opinions that you may find disagreeable. I don't agree with everything that gets posted here - not by a long shot - but I think that what WCG is doing is important enough to let the small cr@p slide.
