I discovered the new project through a team member; it might be helpful to put it on the RSS feed (and where on this site does it list the feed? I can no longer find it on this site, but the feed's last update was in July so it seems to be still used)

From that list it was the plain "News Feed" I was after, and I finally got it to update. Thanks! |

Diseases associated with developing countries do not get the attention that they deserve. If a disease doesn't affect a lot of people in affluent countries, then it's treated like an orphan. Finding treatments for cancer and Alzheimers are worthwhile endeavors, but if you never live long enough to develop those diseases, they don't do you any good. Diseases like dengue are an immediate threat to people of all ages in the developing world so I'm very happy to see WCG stepping up to the plate on this one. I sponsor several children through the Christian Children's Fund. One of their biggest concerns is disease prevention. If we can contribute to the development of drugs that can wipe out some of the killers that now stalk these children, I'll be very happy. These diseases not only threaten developing countries. West Nile and Hep C are a growing threat all over the world. We have to remember that what we are doing here is not for a particular population, but for all humankind. Plus, AIDS is more prevalent in "developing countries" than “affluent countries”, so we have been working towards cures for diseases in developing countries all along. |

Don't worry - it will. As of this moment we have had 2470 results returned and 752 of them have already been validated (up from 166 that had been validated at the time the stats ran). There are 14,178 in progress results and many more flying out the door as we speak. There are roughly 124,000 results daily on BOINC and those are being evenly split between the three projects so we should see around 40,000 results being returned per day by end of week or start of next week.
