In the BOINC Migration post , they state there will be an installer that will unistall UD automatically.
Is there any information on when this will be ready? |

In the BOINC Migration post , they state there will be an installer that will unistall UD automatically. Is there any information on when this will be ready? Hi Dersgniw, I read the letter just now again to see if there was something missing but there's not: Communications: The BOINC migration will be communicated to all members through a number of vehicles. It will be described through World Community Grid’s newsletter, which will be published in September of 2007. The newsletter article about the migration will target UD members and will provide them with information on migrating themselves to BOINC. The way i read it, is that you may expect that uninstall feature to be available after September. I've some expectation, if it comes out, that it will combine with solidifying the 5.10 BOINC final release on which many are also waiting (and they should wait as it is not ready for "Set & Forget" yet!) You don't have to hold back on the changeover as it is truly child's play. Exit the UD agent, remove the autostart shortcut if it exists in the Windows Startup folder and fetch BOINC from the WCG Download page . If you're happy, go to the Control Panel add/remove software and uninstall the UD agent. The WCGWiki explains too: How too Migrate from UD agent to BOINC. The newsletter also sums up the steps, and why wait. Next week a new project is launched and it aint going to run on UD agent. cheers

Thanks Sekerob... That makes sense.
I'm personally not holding off. I currently run BOINC, but when it comes to asking possibly 100s of my teammates to switch over, I'd rather wait until the installer will do that one extra step, however small it may be. The easier the better for those members who really want to be hands-off. Thanks again. |

It's strange how one can jump over the precise sentence one is looking for. In the same "Boinc Migration post", in the "2. After we modify the installer" paragraph I read
----------------------------------------This feature should be available prior to the end of September, 2007 Isn't that what both of you were looking for? In the "1. At the present time" procedure I am negatively surprised to find uninstalling UD as the first step. I would have preferred to find it after Boinc's successful installation is confirmed, same as it was in the migration scenarios described by Sekerob or others until now. Cheers. Jean. |

Perhaps with the WCG branded BOINC, it is harder to tell the two applications apart. A few people might get confused.

I have another question regarding the current WCG installer for Boinc. I do not remember if it installs Boinc in the "Program Files" directory or in a separate directory? If the default is "under the Program Files directory" and if it allows users to choose another one that would be wise to recommend Vista users to do it in the 1.b paragraph of the "Boinc Migration post".
----------------------------------------And if there is no such choice, that might save much frustration to advise Vista users to wait for the new installer (assuming that it will take this case under consideration, obviously). Cheers. Jean. |

It's strange how one can jump over the precise sentence one is looking for. I SWEAR (although I'm probably wrong) that wasn't there originally. Anyway, thanks for pointing out what I should have already seen (if it wasn't edited) ![]() |

Ya, I noticed that World Community Grid is slow on updating the BOINC installer on the website when Berkeley has released 5.10 long time ago. Hopefully we will get the WCG version of BOINC with all the full features such as installed service.

Hello 64bit,
BOINC 5.10 is still getting bugs squashed. BOINC started listing it with 5.10.7. The current version is 5.10.13. We are not discouraging people from using it, but it is still a 'use at own risk' product. Lawrence |
