Re: Why lower requirements?

Hello Bubben,
Why has http://www.computeagainstcancer.org/ lower requirements?

The requirements are needed by the application program. For example, HPF1 and Genome Comparison could run on machines with only 128 MB of RAM while Help Defeat Cancer required about 768 MB of RAM. Today's ordinary lab computer is a Linux x86 machine with 512 MB. It is not unusual for scientists to write programs that they expect to run on computers with 2GB of RAM. A lot of home computers are just used for email and web browsing and word processing. This can be done with only 256 MB or even less.

Can I choose the tasks that run on my computer?

For security reasons, when a task is running, you will not be able to tell whether it is for a paying client or a nonprofit researcher or organization. But through your account, you can track how much work your computer has done for nonprofit research and how much money you have earned to donate to your charity.
