Nice crunching, Largethunder. Keith, I'll be working 96 hours over the next 8 days, so won't be around the forums very often during that time. Also, I'll be running a few Malariacontrol.net WUs for a while. In case anyone's forgotten, MOT is now represented at places other than WCG. ![]() OUCH! That's a lot of hours. Take care of yourself and don't overdo it. I've started working on crunching on our other team sites over the last few days. Malariacontrol.net was a problem. You apparently sign up using your email address and mine is already taken there???? Simap doesn't appear to be sending out work at the moment. I have Spinhenge and Tanpaku running but am having to figure out how to get them running the way I want. I have set the resource share very low for these other projects and high for WCG but that seems to limit just the CPU time they get. I'm trying to figure out how to limit the amount of WUs they download. I have been trying to work with different profiles with different connect to server values but that's not working. Basically, I'm trying to limit the downloads to about the same proportions as the resource shares. This is my first try at running any other projects besides WCG so I have a few basics to sort out. |

On a personal note, I just cracked one million points today. I should hit 600,000 team points next week and one million team points by Thanksgiving. Congrats Keith! Wasn't that many days ago I did the same. Lucky for me, I joined the team soon after starting, so I didn't have to wait so long for the MOT million. |

If - dc happens to read this, did you create another username as dc_1? I know WCG will send out a reminder note when you've gone inactive for four months I believe. If so and you're not using the dc_1 id, you may want to retire it as it shows as part of the team too. If I'm wrong, sorry.

A little off topic but I am looking at getting a new computer and was interested in what everyone thinks of this tower
----------------------------------------http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5983033 I figure I can just pick up the accessories like a monitor, keyboard, etc. |

Hintsala --
Price looks pretty good and the features do as well. I did notice that it says a max of 8 gig of memory one place anf 4 in another -- just a nit. Myself, I would want a second optical drive, but you could easily add that if you wanted it. You might want to check with Keith to see what he can do for you too. His employer offers deals to friends of employees as well. I think Gerald is looking at a laptop for his grandson through it. |

His employer offers deals to friends of employees as well. I think Gerald is looking at a laptop for his grandson through it. If you want HP, I'd go for that machine. Check Consumer Reports for their reliability data. I think HP was middle of the road but am not sure. I can't configure an exact match in terms of features and software (I suspect they do that on purpose) but can get pretty close on features and price. I've found that you can do well to go for the next to top CPU speed rather that the top costwise. When I got my laptop, the cost to go from 2.2GHz to 2.4 was more than going from 2.0 to 2.2. Will you really notice that difference in speed? That could matter for Chris with his artistic work. Any system will have its plusses and minuses. I see this box has 4 memory slots but they use all of them to get you 3MB. Maybe see if going for 2GB on one card leaving the others open is possible. You can add the additional memory separately from someone like Tiger Direct. If you want to add beyond the 3MB, you're going to be left with an unused memory card. If you're going to stay with this machne for more than 3-4 years, being able to easily upgrade without having throwaways and reliability could be factors. |
