I installed BOINC on a Dual Core Athlon. It ran fine until i turned off my computer. It now shows "Disconnected" in the bottom right corner of the advanced view. I tried logging on by going to ADVANCED/SELECT COMPUTER/HostNAME and then entering www.worldcommunitygrid.org in the hostname. I have no clue what to enter enter in the password... In any event it fails to connect. Any suggestions for what I can do to set up the connection. Thanks Bob Blum

This was a bug that I kept experiencing over and over with version 5.4x (I think?). Are you running BOINC version 5.8.16?

Hello rblum100,
Normally it is Vista that causes problems after a reboot ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12856 ). What OS are you running on? Lawrence |

Did you install it in C:\BOINC?
Does it say 'Unable to connect to core client'? Can you copy/paste the messages in the Advanced Messages tab? Lawrence |

It is in C:\program \files\Boinc
the message is in a box entitled "World Community Grid-BOINC Client-Connection failed - " The message is "World Community Grid-BOINC Client is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client. Would you like to try to connect again" |

It is in C:\program \files\Boinc Do NOT install in Program Files on the Vista OS. It is explained in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12856 Install in C:\BOINC or some similar directory. Lawrence Added: Vista has really changed the ground rules. BOINC 6.0 is going to be a major revision that is Vista-ready. It will take months to change over once it is ready. The problem is that there will be a time when people try to run new application programs on old BOINC versions and vice-versa. I am not looking forward to all the hassle.
