howdy back in my univ we made a linux based as that link 3 dual core processor system to a singe system n the os gives the effect of actually having 6 cores...basically a person working on it will think that there are 6 cores in the cpu..my question is if boinc is installed will it use all 6 cores or does it not support beyond 2 cores !
cheers! |

If the OS recognises 6 cores, BOINC will. The Default setting at WCG is 16 cores, but i think it can handle more. You will have to have lots of RAM and VM to handle 6 concurrent jobs that is for sure.

I don't think there's a limit, so long as you have enough memory.
In the BOINC combined stats, I see 96 way multiprocessing, as well as plenty of 16 way SMP. And Mac minis do pretty well with their 8 cores. |

the combined memory+virtual memory is in excess of 12gb so memory will not be a problem :)

I don't think there's a limit, so long as you have enough memory.. Yes. I had a user with a 24 way Sun at SETI. We need to set the shared memory assignments higher that it works... In the BOINC combined stats, I see 96 way multiprocessing, as well as plenty of 16 way SMP. And Mac minis do pretty well with their 8 cores Btw, where/how have you seen/found the 96 way system ? |

I had for some time a 32 core with 128GB of memory W2K3 server.
I ran 32 process simultaneously without any problem. ![]() |
