Re: Would it be difficult to create a Test project?

Very well, thank you! smile
I have finally decided to stay with the normal heatsink delivered with the processor because I did not feel like unmounting everything to install a top range processor fan.

Therefore I have been very conservative and I have limited the OC to 20 %, which leaves the processor about 10 °C below the limit for this model. At this reasonable rate and with good RAM I have never had a single WU in error for OC reasons.
It runs under XP 32 when I need to do things which I find easier with Windows, and under Ubuntu 64 the rest of the time.
When running Linux it crunches HCC WUs which appear to do more integer computations than other projects and then it takes benefit of the higher integer benchmark that 64-bit offers versus the 32-bit mode. Its potential with these WUs is about 32 WUs per day.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Would it be difficult to create a Test project?

I have a Q6600 that I have running at 3.4+ and the temps are at a solid 46-50 degrees c.

That's a 40% OC.

I have had the system up as high a 3.7 and was able to to keep everything cool and in range but the voltage increase to the CPU was just over the top to make the system stable.

Now for me... I don't know.. I'd really like to wait untl the 8-way's come out before building a new system... but we'll see.

BTW.. here's what my averages are in the way of points and the such.

Avg. Points Per Hour of Run Time 162.51
Avg. Points Per Calendar Day 414.70
Avg. Points Per Result 678.41
Avg. Results Per Calendar Day 0.61

Re: Would it be difficult to create a Test project?

... it might be convenient to be able to select a Test project with short units requesting only little memory. That would make it possible to quickly check if the overall download-crunch-upload chain is working correctly and to eliminate the size and crunching capability of the client machine from the causes of possible problems.

I think this is a super idea, if it can be implemented in some easy way. When configurating and messing with
cables for some hours, an easy test would be much appreciated. You may download a WU by increasing work
buffer, but if you have a bad cable, the unit quickly become full...

Re: Would it be difficult to create a Test project?

Although this thread has already gone off topic several times its purpose was not to request test WUs for comparing machines performance, even less to simply list configurations with a benchmark.

Its purpose is to discuss and eventually support the creation of short test WUs for allowing members to quickly test the process cycle (distribution, processing, uploading, reporting and validation) without having to wait hours that a WU is processed. There are other threads in the Chat forum for discussing machines configurations and performance.

As the originator of this thread (not a CA then) I think it could be interesting to come back to the topic of such test WUs.
As a CA now, I remind that it is not good practice to hijack threads, first because it is not correct and second because the added off-topic info will hardly be found under a totally unrelated title if anybody looks for it.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Would it be difficult to create a Test project?

Hi pete,

here's a link to a thread discussing hardware. It's one of the many.

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21043#172153

This forum is actually designed to provide feedback on how to improve WCG and meeting the every need & wish of the volunteers.

cheers
