The return of the monster work units!

I've got a hum dinger going. Looks like it will be a six day WU.

I notice that the global statistics have dropped off recently. I'm guessing that everybody else is getting these huge calculations going on, too.

Filbert, Bent,

Yep, some big crunches are distributed by the WCG-server lately... ( 100+ hours jobs for the faster P4 machines ) but I think team and member scores will be behaving like a earthquake with teams rizing and dropping places in a few day period.
I kind of like these big onces, I only disagree with the 236hrs calculation threshold, escpecially the more slower ( P3 ) devices will not be able to finish their Wu'completely.

Keep the CPU's smoking ....

Re: The return of the monster work units!

Yeah I have a ~100 hour one still running on my P4 2.6

By luck, my weaker device (of score 98) has been getting small WUs, around 12-20 hours

You can see the updated results charts on global stats showing a noticeable dip, and they are now climbing upwards. Points galore!

Absolutely not!

During the past weeks, I only get either very small WUs or aborting WUs. Just now I returned a result of 72 points. My all-time low dates from a few weeks ago and is not determinable any more, because I returned two results on one day, but together they earned me an astronomical 96 points...

Re: The return of the monster work units!

I am actually getting a mixture of WUs. I have a monster one that is still crunching away on one machine but the latest one on my other machine is currently at 77% after 3 hours 11 minutes.

It would still be good to know what happened to WU that are not completed in time due to the 336 hour + 1 second time limit.

In the UD Cancer days, the WU would eventually be reallocated to someone else to start crunching from the start again.

Re: The return of the monster work units!

I think the global stats graph (declining since 14th Jan.) clearly shows increasing number of huge work units which began to return results gradually since 18th Jan. I got the big one on 15th Jan. with the scheduled completion on 27th Jan. Should earn more then 5k points. My second machine crunches the WU since 16th Jan. with the scheduled end on Friday the 21st (2k+ points).
Happy crunching!

Just completed that big WU. 3200 points, 5 days 17 hours.

Now I've got this wimpy little WU going. Should be done in 6 hours. wink

Re: The return of the monster work units!

smile Yesterday was the biggest day ever for me! smile I completed 5 work units for a total of 3468 points on 0:006:13:25:20 run time. Four of the work units were on my 2.4 GHz P4. The other was on my old P3 that I keep around for my sons when they visit so they can keep up on their e-mail while they are here. It accounted for 1 day of run time and only 386 points.
