1) I used the 'Become a Member' link from the home page. On the register page, I filled in my name, email address, etc. I used the same email address that I used for BOINC.
When I looked at the My Grid / My Profile page, I noticed that the system had assigned me a new BOINC crossproject ID, which is different than the old one I've been using for quite a while now. How can I tell World Community Grid to use my old BOINC crossproject ID? 2) Has this question been answered before? If so, how could I have found the answer? All the things I tried failed. What did I not think to do? Thanks, Pat |

This is normal.
----------------------------------------The BOINC system resynchs the cross-project ID whenever you attach to a new project. Just give it a couple of days, and it will happen automatically. (You must use the same email address, and you must have at least one host attached to more than just WCG.) Here's how it works: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/CrossProjectId [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 9, 2007 6:28:02 PM] |

It worked, and then it quit working
Well, it took some effort and waiting a week, but everything finally liked. Just waiting a few days didn't seem to do anything. Until then I had been running WCG on one machine and another BOINC project on another. So, on the other machine, I connected to WCG and ran a couple of things. The day after that, my profile showed my correct cross-project ID and the combined statistics page showed all my projects. Things were just the way I wanted them for a couple of days. Then, a couple of days later, something went wrong. On my WCG profile page, my cross-project ID is back to what it was before, not the one that my other projects are under. And, my combined statistics page only shows the other projects, not my WCG project. What could have happened? What might I do to fix it? Pat |

Have you changed anything recently?
Added a new computer, registered with another project, changed any details in your profile? Remember, you must have at least one computer attached to World Community Grid as well as another of your projects. |

AFAIK, I didn't change anything relevant. But, ...
----------------------------------------Here's my setup: George: running Einstein MusicBox: running WCG BlackBox: running WCG & climatechange What I changed that preceded getting WCG linked to my real cross-project ID was adding WCG to BlackBox and running 1 work unit. WCG picked up my real cross-project ID the day after BlackBox reported the first result on WCG. And, for the first time, BOINC Combined Statistics reported my WCG results. A day or so after that, I suspended WCG on BlackBox. Not detached, just suspended. Some small number of days after that, WCG had forgotten my real cross-project ID and was back to using the one it assigned. My WCG results no longer appeared on BOINC Combined Statistics. I didn't check every day, so I can't say precisely when it happened. I didn't change anything in any profile, add any other computers, or register with any other projects. Update: I just checked my BOINC combined statistics. WCG stuff is back. And my WCG profile has my real cross-project ID. Huh??? I'm really confused now. As Didactylos noted, it's important to have each machine linked to at least 2 active projects. Each time you create a new membership somewhere the ballgame starts afresh with the a new random 32 hex number and it taking 24-48 hours to sync up again. The convergence rule is, that the CPID is used of the oldest created.
----------------------------------------sample of a closed loop: 1. Einstein+WCG 2. WCG+Climate 3. Climate+Einstein sample of a broken loop 1. Einstein+Climate 2. Climate 3. WCG In latter a WCG generated CPID will never converge to the once of the other projects. I think if you set up a BAM account at BOINC stats and tell it which projects you run under one handle like "Pat McGee", the process is a little more accelerated. In your case the Einstein Box will not sync with the other 2.... eventually they might as each pure BOINC project website in latest version pulls all the participating stats together. Just visit your Climate Account page at bottom. WCG is a little awkward as it is *read only* for security reasons. If thus you have a box only attached to WCG, it will adopt the CPID initially generated here. WCG is also the only one using SSL over port 443/HTTPS.... it sits inside the IBM network and they are pretty tight on who gets in.... certainly not the present BAM/AMS managers to write stuff to your WCG device profiles. PS: Do not post your real device names.... they are entry points to connect e.g. BOINC stats to persons.

Well, Sekerob - you managed to confuse me, too!
Pat McGee, MusicBox is orphaned. When MusicBox contacts the WCG server, it sends your old CPID, and the WCG server changes its database to match. When BlackBox contacts the WCG server, it updates with the correct (old) CPID. Explanation here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/CrossProjectId The rule is, never attach a new host to a new project; attach to one of your current projects first. Now that I'm thinking more clearly about this (thanks, Sekerob - you have a gift for making me put my brain in gear) I think I see a way to fix this quirky behaviour by modifying BOINC. It won't help you, Pat McGee - but it may help people in the future running into this problem. |

So the loop is, Pat is confused after you posting, then i post after which you are confused.... perfect, but you say the same thing in different words proofing your brain is indeed in gear
----------------------------------------![]() AFAIKnew the WCG database did not get updated by the common CPID.... at least that's what I thought to remember from an explanation by i think knreed, but reading back, this post: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=86588 suggests WCG is taking in CPID updates, but not BAM which he explains here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...amp;lastpage=yes#lastpost PS, actually i think George (Einstein) is orphaned completely or (?)

See, you were mixed up! I wasn't sure, then I got confused.
Yes, WCG updates the CPID - it has to, it's part of the BOINC functionality. It doesn't matter if hosts are orphaned once they have the correct CPID - they're linked in, and that's that. I think. |

well, i just looked back and see that my CPID in WCG's 'My Profile' is different from all other projects and digging further find that it's the very original generated back when migrating here from UD to BOINC (if only i could find that older post discussing this). Leaves me to think the oldest code of a pure BOINC project allowing RW is being used by all multi project machines, which all are.
----------------------------------------WCG project profile: internalhashedcpidvalue32long Client_State.xml: <host_cpid>externalantispoofvalue</host_cpid> Now Who's confused?
