I think HPF2 is a good project and i hope it will lead to something good!!! I´ll stick to it!! ![]() Ditto, I have been away from crunching for along time, the last time I crunched my fastest machine was a 600 hz pent lll with 128 meg ram and a 6 gig hd. It would take a few hours to crunch a unit back then. Last night when I checked it was half way at 15 hrs with the unit. It doesn't make alot of headway every day, like my newest xps Gen 4 machine, but it still chugs along. Just recently thunderstorms were my biggest concern that might interupt processing the units while I was at work. I currently have 5 machines crunching with various power supplies and levels of protection. Now my wife is complaining about the amount of electricity it takes to keep crunching, which costs around 17.5 cents in New England per KW. The cost is not the issue, the outcome is. She doesn't understand why I do this. Its because somebody has to. I think the HPF2 cause is super. We all have different reasons to crunch, they are all valid as long as we crunch. Some how in some direct or indirect way this helps others. Back in Grid.org days I belonged to a team that floated around on a ship. We partied and had all kind of adventures. Hopefully all that crunching contributes to finding a missing piece of a puzzle which just might save someones life. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 8, 2007 10:51:07 AM] |

nhkayakur -- You may want to wait until late fall when it is starting to get a bit cold in NH and point out to your wife the benefits of having five space heaters running. Perhaps she will want you to get a few more up and crunching for other rooms in the house
![]() Note: Not a good idea to discuss this in the summer -- she might question the impact on air conditioning costs/efficiency ![]() |

Actually, the biggest air conditioner is next the largest desktop I have keeping it cool ![]() LOL -- So I don't fry it, in addition to sitting on a USB powered cooling pad, my laptop sits on a stand in front of an air conditioner. |
