if you scan above, i had detached from project and attached to project .. at one point hoping to get wcg to recognize my new computer/client running on linux .. i also run EAH and CPN which ported to linux no problem .. i don't want to create a new id and lose all my credit and team stuff .. the old device had a different name than my current device which means that should not hose up my current connection .. i want to attach to wcg with my current userid on my current machine alongside EAH and CPN.

Scheduler request failed: problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)

Make sure you include the certificate in the directory your client is starting in.
The Linux install instructions I originally followed had the boinc user running in a different directory than I installed in.

Re: XP to Suse Linux problem

is this certificate unique to wcg, me, or my boinc client? i have the client running on my linux machine and my parent's xp windows machine .. where do i find this certificate? as a reminder, EAH and CPN run fine here.. and all 3 run fine on the xp machine..

Re: XP to Suse Linux problem

Hi micheals,
These are just the standard certificates used by the Secure Socket Layer encryption protocol. The WCG server uses encrypted commo, unlike many projects. There are many threads locating the bundle for various Linux distros.

Re: XP to Suse Linux problem

It's not unique at all. Either download it using the link I gave, or copy it from one of your other computers.

Why does this problem only affect WCG, and not other BOINC projects?
This is because WCG is (at the time of writing) the only BOINC project that requires a secure connection to the server. Other projects permit falling back to an insecure connection.

Re: XP to Suse Linux problem

smile IT WORKS! smile thank you! smile ..sigh.. i have another issue that relates to processing of tasks .. on my parent's xp machine, you can control preferences under the advanced-tab - for example - to let each task run 20 minutes then switch to another (i currently run 3 projects on on both machines - the same 3 - and on the xp machine - can switch between projects every 20 minutes) .. the reason i do this is - in case i have to turn off either machine for any reason (my father does not like his computer running all the time), tasks can be "spread out" over time more evenly - giving a more even share of resources to each task.. this does not seem to be available on my boinc manager - on the linux machine .. has this issue come up before (to anyone's recollection)?

Re: XP to Suse Linux problem

Hello micheals,
That is part of the Device Profile, which you can set on My Grid - Device Manager - Device Profile. I think that the switch occurs after a check point is written so a project may run a bit longer than the time you set.

Since the evolution here is slightly different, some have said that BAM will not change WCG related info. It may change general BOINC parameters. 20 minutes would be very short with some projects with a long time between checkpoints and some have had problems with an hour. My own is set to 180 minutes to run a task before switching. (If you are only running WCG this will not be a factor, even multiple WCG projects. It affects multiple BOINC projects.)
