Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

I was perusing the Team Forums list earlier and noticed that in the 'Last Post' column that there was just a Date/Time but no name showing for the last entries in the Teddies and Islam team threads:

I looked within both those team threads and saw that the last posts actually visible showing were dated/timed earlier than that shown in my screenie above.

I assumed that one possible reason was that the last poster had deleted his post, or had it deleted for some reason, but with the time stamp still showing.

I now see reading the Teddies thread, the possible reason is that 'carl.h' may have been put on some kind of 'silent mode' which means he posts without realising they cannot be read by others - can this be confirmed please as he has not apparently received any notification of this, or perhaps establish whether this is some sort of forum glitch.

An early response would be appreciated so we don't get another flame war erupting unnecessarily.

Many thanks, Ady smile

Re: Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

The forum does sometimes have last post time issues, but as you've spotted - this isn't one of them.

World Community Grid do not take action like this lightly. This is the second time in the history of WCG that it has happened. Also, World Community Grid don't do it without warning. carl.h has received (on two separate occasions) an official warning by email from the WCG project management, telling him to cease and desist. (This is in addition to any warnings from CAs or admins in the forums.) When the second warning was ignored, there was no need for further debate. If carl.h needs closure, he can get an explanation directly from the admins, by email.

The current WCG policy is not to make an official announcement about things like this, mostly because it just tends to polarise people, and the trouble continues. My personal opinion is that after the forum has experienced a rough patch, everyone needs closure - and an official announcement would help us move on.

We all can break the rules accidentally now and then. We apologise, nelsoc cleans up, and we get over it. What will get someone banned is repeated rule violation, in flagrant disregard of warnings from the admins. So, don't worry - you're not going to wake up tomorrow and find you can't post. Not to put too fine a point on it, carl.h is faking his surprise over this outcome. He knew exactly what to expect.

I hope this gives you (and anyone else reading) closure on this. It has certainly helped me.

Only thing that is obvious to me is your hatred is once again evident. Bet you pissed yourself when you found out he was banned.

Last email Carl received didn't even have a link to the post that was a problem. He then sent a email back asking for clarification. I don't know if he ever received anything after that or not.

That email looked no different than the petty ones I get for using ass in a post. Should I consider those my warning as well? If so will I be banned in the morning as well. Technically I have been warned more than twice since I've been here. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised now should I.

If you wanted to ban or silence him someone should have at least notified him. If that had happened unlikely you would have heard from any of us about it. We would have accepted it and moved on about our business. You have not solved a problem but only added another to the mix.

Re: Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

It wasn't a single post that was at issue. There were many posts involved, breaking a number of rules.

Please remember, this wasn't my decision (although I support it). I haven't seen the email that was sent, although I understand it was a standard "cease and desist".

Please note that these warnings were personal emails from the WCG project manager, not the automatic emails that are sent when nelsoc edits a post. carl.h will presumably have received quite a few of those, too. The first official warning carl.h got was quite a few months ago, on a separate issue. And in between these two incidents, carl.h made a grand total of four posts.

I repeat: this wasn't done lightly. The course of action was decided by the project manager and all the forum administrators in consultation.

But honestly - he's only banned from these forums. It's not the end of the world. I don't want to get drawn into an argument with you, so please contact the staff via the support address if you wish to disagree with the notification policy.

Re: Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

Thanks for the reply and explanation Didactylos - it is appreciated.

I won't comment on the decision to ban carl.h as that is between WCG and him - the only thing I would suggest is that in future an email be sent to the offender when a decision such as this is made to inform him/her so that it will negate the guesswork and possible further disruption to these forums.

As a general point regarding the banning of members is it ever possible for offenders to be redeemed in the future after dialogue with WCG, or are they forever?

Re: Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

Well, that would depend. Creating a load of fake logins and trying to disrupt the forum after being banned is probably not the way to get reinstated.

But so far, bans are permanent. You see, people can crunch quite happily without requiring access to the forums. There is still the support address if carl.h has technical troubles, and he can chat with the teddies on your own forum. I honestly can't think of anything that would grant redemption - although an apology would be the place to start.

Re: Invisible 'Last Post' Issue....

Let`s get this straight the only warning I received I posted on our forum..

Dear carl.h, Your recent posts in the World Community Grid forums are in violation of the forum rules. Please refrain from making these type of posts in the World Community grid forums. We suggest that you employ the common courtesy mention here: http://www.teddies.be/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=44 Thanks.

World Community Grid

Nowhere has there been any evidence of me breaking forum rules even though I asked for such by return. The forum CA`s here do not like me that is a FACT. Why because they are not even handed and I proved it repeatedly and the fact they are often wrong.

The first warning I got when Dagorath insulted my deceased Mother and accused me of all kinds of illegal and immoral activity, the forum admin let those posts stand therefore enraged I answered in my own way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this action is a challenge to me believe me, I spend my life in front of machines so have plenty of time with them. I hope you have the same because I will not give up or desist until carl.h has been fully reinstated. This is a promise.

Carl, I know you are upset, but perhaps it it would be better to set up a dialogue with WCG away from the forums where you are more likely to get a response - it is unlikely that you will be allowed back I suspect if you continue to post here under different logins - that is obviously assuming you want to come back confused

Ady I appreciate your level headedness but I`ve done nothing wrong.

I will not be punished for nothing.

They cannot and will not ever stop me posting.

But what is the point Carl? - your posts will just get deleted after a short while and it will be a waste of time for everyone.

I urge you to argue your case directly with WCG via email - there may be some way to resolve this, but this isn't it.
