As-Salaam Alaykom (Peace be upon you) Disclaimer: 1,200,000,000 people in the world identfy as Muslim. This thread is for the team "Islam". If you find the view of 1,200,000,000 Muslims to be objectionable, then please stop reading this thread. Few Muslims participate here in WCG. I would like there to be more. This thread is designed to provide a "Muslim Friendly" environment. Without toleration of Quran (the Book of the Muslims) by the WCG management in a thread with a disclaimer as above, I see little hope of the 1,200,000,000 taking an interest in WCG participation. The manners in this initial post, where the Quran is welcome, is a way for 1,200,000,000 other Muslims to know that they are welcome to join the WCG team Islam.  Quran 2:177 "[Muslim] Righteousness consists of the belief in God, the Day of Judgment, the angels, the Books of God, His Prophets; to give money for the love of God to relatives, orphans, the destitute, and those who are on a journey and in urgent need of money; to set free slaves and to be steadfast in prayer, to pay the charity out of savings, to fulfill one's promises, and to exercise patience in poverty, in distress, and in times of war." Quran 38:29 "[Here is] a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs." If the above verses take residence in you, then we have a Team for you. Please Enter Islam -- The Team -- Mouse here for details Quran 29:20 "Travel through the earth and see how God did originate creation." The above verse is a sanction and command to a Muslim to do science as an act of worship. In the Quran, "travel" may be a euphemism for hard or careful work (as it is in this verse). The work that the WCG does may be supported by Muslims in this way. Moreover, since the above verse is an order, the WGC maybe higher than simple permissibility. Lets seek a Fatwa in this matter. In any case, permissibility is enough. Please join the WGC and the team Islam. Quran 73:20 "Surely your Lord knows that you [the Prophet of God, Muhammad] pass in prayer nearly two-thirds of the night, and (sometimes) half of it, and (sometimes) a third of it, and (also) a party of those with you; and Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you are not able to do it, so He has turned to you (mercifully), therefore read what is easy of the Quran. He knows that there must be among you sick, and others who travel in the land seeking of the bounty of Allah, and others who defend in Allah's way, therefore read as much of it as is easy (to you), and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and offer to Allah a goodly gift, and whatever of good you send on beforehand for yourselves, you will find it with Allah; that is best and greatest in reward; and ask forgiveness of Allah; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." Like the last verse in the previous post, the above verse touches on the "travel", which may be a euphemism for hard or careful work. The "send on" is understood to be any righteous deed or donation of time, work or money that is done with the intention of the pleasure of God. In this way, participating in the betterment of society by crunching in the WCG is a way to better your condition in the hereafter. Unto Him good words ascend, and the righteous deeds He exalts; but those who plot iniquities, theirs will be an awful doom and plotting of such will come to naught. [11] God created you from dust, then from a little fluid, then He made you pairs. No female conceives or gives birth save with His knowledge. And no one grows old that lives long, nor is aught lessened of his life, but it is recorded in a Book. Surely that is easy for God." Per the verse above, we have no power to discover the perfection that God has placed in the universe. The WCG only makes its computational discoveries by the permission of God. Insha'Allah* Quran 8:24 -- "O you who believe, respond to Allah and His Messenger, when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah comes in between a man and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered." In the verse above, only God will motivate the heart of a person for straight path or stray path. Using our spare computer cycles to help to progress science does not take away from our normal use of computers. The decision to participate is a matter primarily of intention and with little substative effort. Therefore, if you are not feeling a call to participate in this good deed of the WCG, then please make Dua* that Allah Subhanahu_wa_ta'ala* will make your heart want to participate. And unto Us [God] shall you be returned" Fellow Muslims, from the previous posts one recognizes the value for participating in the WCG with your spare cycles. The verse immediately above is so typical in the Reminder of the urgent need for passing the tests of good deeds ... like that of participaitng in the WCG, Insha'Allah*. And We set forth these parables to men that they may reflect. He is the One GOD; there is no other god beside Him. Knower of all secrets and declarations. He is the Most Gracious, Most Merciful. He is the only Lord, the King, the Holy, the Peace, the Forgiver, the Watchful Guardian, the Majestic, the Dominant, and the Exalted. God is too exalted to have any partner. He is the Creator, the Designer, the Modeler, and to Him belong all virtuous names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. He is All-majestic and All-wise." Fellow Muslims, reflect on the beautiful names of God in the verses above and know that everything we calculate was chosen by God prior to the creation (prior to time). Insha'Allah* Quran 107 "Have you considered him who calls The Judgment a lie? That is, he who drives away the orphan, and never encourages the feeding of the destitute. So, woe to the worshippers, who are neglectful of their prayers, who do good deeds only to be seen [of people], and refuse to be neighborly." In the verse above the person that drives away the orphan is take to be the one who calls the judgement a lie; Likewise so, for the failure to help the destitute and failure to be neighborly. Can the WCG gain us benefit in this regard? Yes. Anyone participating in the WCG with the intention that the research preserve the life of an HIV infected parent, that the research makes plants more healthy to feed the destitute, or that the research improves the health of a neighbor, then they are saved from being take as one that calls the judgement a lie.
