Well this is a new one. I converted two older UD client machines to BOINC (5.18.16) this afternoon and was astonished to see them both download Fightning AIDS @ Home work units. Why was I so surprised? Because I do not have Fighting AIDS @Home selected as a project anywhere: not in My Projects, and not in any of the device profiles. AND, I have the option to send work units from other projects unchecked.
So my question is: Why are my BOINC clients receiving Fighting AIDS @ Home work units? I have nothing against it but I don't want to be crunching for that project. |

Please bear in mind that BOINC uses entirely separate device profiles to your UD clients. Since you mentioned you are using device profiles, I consider this the most likely situation.
Please check which BOINC device profile your devices are set to, then check that profile. You need to click on "Custom Profile" to see the project settings (they are hidden by default). Alternatively, you can reset the project selection in all your device profiles by clicking "Save" on your "My Projects" page. Confusing, I know. Sorry. Then, you will have to wait for more work to be sent. Please let us know if this solves your problem. |

I thought of this too, so I double checked. I am in fact looking at the BOINC device profiles, and indeed, none of them have "Fighting AIDS @ Home" selected. They each have Genome Comparison and Human Proteome Folding selected. I verified the profile set on the BOINC client matches the default I have set on the website here (work) and that profile does not include Fighing AIDS @ Home.
Doing a little more research on the matter, this problem apparently started on July 1st, and I see multiple computers (which have had BOINC installed for over 2 months and have never been sent FAAA WU's before) have been downloading FAAH work units as well, despite the fact that nobody has touched the device profile on BOINC itself or here at the WCG website (I'm the only one with the password, and I haven't changed anything). I guess the next step to try the reset project selection. Something is definitely going wrong. Also, on these FAAH work units, there is an extremely high ratio of failures, almost 1 failure per 1 good result. Previous to this I saw maybe one or two errors out of a thousand WU's for Genome and Proteome. |

Don't exactly know how the proliferation of choices work, but if you last visited My Projects and made changes there, i believe it to overrule the device profiles. Found to my own dismay once to have done that and all devices taking that on regardless the profile association, thus apply the change to both My Projects first, Device Profiles Second should ensure you are on top.

Negative. Not signed up for the betas, either. I reset the projects as per your advice and I can see that none of my units have downloaded anymore FAAH units since then. I have no idea what would have caused it to just decide to do that, but, it appears its ok now.
