Re: idle pc,s

Some here with only 128Mb memory are getting work if they increase the virtual memory.

The servers were down for awhile, but have returned. See the known issues at the top of the forum for current status of things like that.

Failing that, I posted links to many other BOINC projects in the Genome Comparison thread, since work there is now finished for awhile. Some have very small workunits suitable for small machines.

Re: idle pc,s

Had to use the exit client in the end after the outage to get it going again on one machine. Sometimes comms wont do it all by itself though it should.

If i read what i read in the last line, that's a bit quick :O

Try migrating to BOINC, often that will run when UD refuses (or you have both clients already on those machines ?). Also BOINC has a lower memory requirement and will allow FA@H to run on 128mb free ram and enough swap-file / virtual memory space (allocate and allow >= 500mb).

Sometimes a boot could just do the trick.... windows leaks memory all the time. What particular Windows version are we talking... If Vista, we've got a ready FAQ for you.

Added: What project were you running and have you checked both the My Projects and the Device Profile project selection. Someone yesterday had a download issue because of that.

Oh, 7-8 years crunching, was that at WCG, because i think to remember your name from grid.org.... age ;?

Re: idle pc,s

Hi Ron. We need a little more information.

Please will you go to one of the BOINC machines affected by this, and perform the following actions using BOINC Manager:

- In the Advanced view, click on Advanced->Retry Communications
- Go to the Project tab, select WCG and click "Update"
- Go to the Messages tab and copy the last hours worth of messages
- Post the messages here so we can look them over.

Thank you.

Re: idle pc,s

Can you get to www.google.com from those machines via their web browser, because BOINC is failing to even check there (over regular http port 80) i.e. there is no network at all according the agent.
