Safak: No worries! :-D
Haldav: my whole comment was "Obviously, IBM don't make any money from WCG, but it doesn't hurt their public image, either ;-)" By the way, IBM have run two major ad campaigns for World Community Grid in TV, print and online media. For a long period, IBM featured World Community Grid right on the ibm.com homepage (a fiercely fought over spot). |

... WCG only accept projects from non-profit organisations... Personally, it wouldn't matter to me if WCG accepted projects from a well established pharmaceutical company. Yes, in the fight against cancer, I would help a money-grubbing drug comany -- if it had a good track record. Right now, we have our choice of cancer treatments -- poison, burn, and cut. I would like to see better treatments for cancer in my lifetime. For the curious, that only leaves 20 years or so. I'm 54. BTW, I cannot wait for the cancer project to get up and running. I think the newsletter mentioned August. (I was told at grid.org they thought it would be late May or June, maybe. Oh well, these things happen.) |

debsgr8, as far as I know, the pharmaceutical companies have all the computing resources they need - and if they need more, they can easily afford supercomputer or commercial grid time. Anyway, they would be unlikely to agree to making the results public.
The new AutoDock beta test seems to be progressing well, so hopefully we will see some project launches soon. The dates are only estimates - if the cancer project is ready earlier or later, then that is when it will launch. |
