Slow Processing....

Hi,

I have been running the client over 17 hours, but it just got 15.5%. Although CPU Usage is around 97-99%, the process is very slow... I wonder how large the work unit is and my PC spent less than 10 hours on average. I am running it on Athlon XP 2500+ with 512MB ram.

Cheers,
Ching

Re: Slow Processing....

Hi Ching,

I think there are alot of large work units going around this weekend. I average 8hrs 49 mins per result but my current work unit has been crunching for over 20 hrs now and only 24% completed! That's going to take over 80 hrs at the current rate! beat up

Re: Slow Processing....

I agree with the other observations. It looks like we have a batch of huge work units. I have a 3Ghz P4 that is 43 hours into a work unit and is only 57% through. This machine has been averaging 3-5 work units per day.

Large work units will give a larger number of points but there is an issue with "big" WU's for people who have slower machines.

If the elapsed (wall time) is greater than 3 weeks (504 hours) or the processing time is greater than 2 weeks (336 hours), then the WU basically becomes invalid as far as results are concerned because the the WU will not be finished.

Have a look at this thread for more details.

BTW, my current monster WU is at 32% and has taken 45 hours so far.
