confused Priority under Windows 98

Hi everybody,
could anyone please tell me how to change the priority of Rosetta under windows 98? Well, i know this is possible using a 3rd-part software that simulates a Task Manager, but i do not like this solution at all... not talking

Thanks in advance,
Andrea biggrin

Re: Priority under Windows 98

Honestly I do not know how to raise the priority of Rosetta on Win98 but I do know that it is

1) Dangerous to your machine
2) likely to make the machine virtually unusable for anything else and
3) Unlikey to make any significant difference in your throughput.

This is unless you have some kind of trojan that is hogging resources. In that case the far better solution is to get rid of the trojan.

If you are interested in a discussion of why raising the priority of Rosetta is a dangerous thing to do, I or someone else will explain it.

Re: Priority under Windows 98

Andrea --

Rick Alther of the WCG development staff stated the following about setting priorities of Rosetta,

"Changing the priority class of Rosetta via the task manager isn't going to change anything unless you set Rosetta to the realtime priority class (which you do not want to do unless you want an unusable computer). To understand why this is, you need to understand in detail how Windows thread priorities work."

I would recommend that you heed his advice.

Re: Priority under Windows 98

Thank you for your quick and complete answers to my question.
I will follow your advice and won't change the priority of Rosetta.

I have not the necessary knowledge to understand how win 98 thread priorities works d oh (just to let you know, i've been studying statistics), but thank you anyway.
