I found a very good expression by cargod01 of different project:
"I lost my mother & grandmother to cancer and I've had cancer 5 times, but I have never seen ET." THAT says ALOT! |

You should, it's a great movie.
Sorry. I couldn't resist. And I agree with you, it's a very succinct way of describing the immediacy of what we do here, and the reasons we donate our time. |

I found a very good expression by cargod01 of different project: "I lost my mother & grandmother to cancer and I've had cancer 5 times, but I have never seen ET." THAT says ALOT! Thanks! I started distributed computing with SETI, but once I discovered cancer research, I switched. I think my reason makes sense. LOL I leave one of my 65 machines looking for ET just in case he has a cancer cure in his UFO... but the other 64 machines do healthcare research. As the line goes... "If it is to be, it is up to ME!" Thanks to all those who are helping! |

I have a co-worker that uses his spare cycles at home to look for ET. I have been trying to get him to switch over to WCG for some time. Maybe this thread will help.
My family has a long history of cancer, right behind heart ailments, so my cycles (every one) go to WCG. Maybe years down the road if (I pray it would not happen) my son gets diagnosed with an illness and there is a cure or some treatment that has been created, I can think that just maybe one of my machines might have helped develop that treatment. |

I tried SETI, don't really remember, maybe even finished some workunit or 2. Then I found Grid.org and when it was dead moved over here.
----------------------------------------I believe, or should I say I know that there must be ET life forms, considering the size of our Universe, but for this same reason SETI project looks like a waste of time as chances are very, very, very... (N times)... slim. Well, my grandfather died of cancer, but I don't feel sorry for him, it's not that I'm cold hearted ****(I hope ), it's just if you smoke cheap cigarettes with no filter for some 50 years as he did, then you should count on such consequences. BTW, it is the only case of cancer in our family as far as I know if someone doubts dangers of smoking tobacco. **edited for inappropriate language** TKH [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Sep 4, 2007 1:38:43 PM] |
