@itpro3f8h,
----------------------------------------We have not forgotten what the original topic was, so hope you can get us some more info after reading the relevant parts. @Twil, i'll compile a reply on the 6 'Ideas' (when i get the time).... here's a few appetizer for Idea 5. you had in action: 12/06/2007 14:05:06||Memory: 1.50 GB physical, 2.85 GB virtual 12/06/2007 14:05:06||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 921.29MB 12/06/2007 14:05:06||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1381.94MB My local prefs are 60% work / 90% idle.... take the calculator. It works and i have no reason to believe that it does not work for anyone on the recommended production version of BOINC (5.8.16 for windows) Idea 6 is no idea as you know what it did for the UD agent.... a meaningless setting to jack up points for HD space that was not reserved, nor used for a single DC client, nor even had to be physically there. For BOINC it's not much different. Don't draw the swapfile into the equation, that anyway is allocated by the OS (lest it was manually overridden). Idea 3.a/d..... did we tell you about that disk i/o option allowing postponement of up to 999 seconds (postponing checkpointing inclusive) and was there not that 'Minimum Impact' profile to choose? The lowest priority level on Windows is i think even Nicer than the Nice on Linux.... the agent should give away virtually instantaneous and the MI profile does have 'work when idle only' default with a 3 minute resume delay. I'm not interested in tit for tat Fröbel Schule pass time. Report a specific problem, we seek together the solution or make a bug report for passing to the developers desk. They have our comments on the BOINC throttle on/off routine and myself gave another nudge last week as to getting nearer the ThreadMaster smoothness. thanks. PS: Was "Common Business-Oriented Language" not having a second-life?

Oooooo - is THAT how open source works - gee, I thought it was written by elves. Thanks for setting me straight.
----------------------------------------I only have boinc on 2 machines and there's no way i'm re-installing on other machines. I have enough trouble keeping them running and doing what I want as it is. I don't even start trouble tickets for commercial software I have unless it's absolutely necessary. Dumping boinc and going back to UD agent is a good enough solution for my purposes. However I will give you an example of just one flaw I have noticed. I have set boinc to work only when computer is idle yet when i try to get back from the screen saver (boinc or otherwise) the machine is sluggish. I then go into taskmanager and watch the boinc science program run at 80 to 100% for the next several minutes. Now would you call this a "bug" or an "undocumented enhancement"? ![]() ![]() |

I believe it is a bug that has a fix included in the next release (which is quite near now).
Yes, THAT is how it works. :+) |

Hello itpro3f8h, For the past week, I have noticed a marked slowdown of my computer. ..... discovered the UD agant was using CPU at 60 to 80% on a duel core processor even when it was set to idle time. Does this mean that your profile is set to only run at certain hours? Or do you mean something else? Also, which project is running when this problem occurs? Lawrence Hello Lawrence, Yes, my profile is set to run for 12 hours, mostly overnight hours. I believe the project running was the Aids Project. I hope this helps... |

itpro3f8h,
----------------------------------------CPU use of 60/80% in task manager observed on 1 core or overall? On a dual core it's normal to see 30% (is 60% of 1 core), or 50% (is 100% of 1 core). What actual process in Taskmanager shows the usage, whilst the project should be idle? UD.exe ? UD_xxxxxxxxxx.exe ? wcgxxxxxxxxxx.exe ? (xxxxx stands for varying name or number depending on the project that is running) With the idle time option selected in the agent, would you mind going to the WCG program directory and find a UDxxxxxxx.scr file. Right click on it and take the 'install' option. That all 4 UD installations start displaying this behavior is very odd.... Cant think but of 1 particular science or an AV or Firewall upgrade interfering? cheers
