We would like to thank all of the members who have generously contributed towards the Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Phase 1. This project has completed and there will not be any new work sent out. If you have a Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy work unit you can let it finish and you will still receive the credit that you deserve on it.
We will soon be sending a new email about the project's completion and will provide more information about future work on World Community Grid. Some of you who have set your preferences on the My Projects page to only contribute to Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy will find that your agent may go into a paused state. If this is the case, please try one of our other projects to contribute towards. At some point we may reset the preferences for users contributing only to Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy project to the default of contributing to all projects, so that their agents do not become totally idle. We wil be hearing exciting information about the results and the next steps from the researchers. Thank you again for you spare computer cycles which have made this project possible! |

excellent
---------------------------------------- i hope they now have a good basis for their new 'crunching' ideas later. i believe they are still checking to see if the first crunch produced anything significant? (i mean protein interactions, not just better crunching techniques). if not, i imagine it would be very hard to continue. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 12, 2007 2:30:43 AM] |

Wonderful.. hope Phase 2 will be around soon.. HCMD WU seemed pretty simple for crunching the most part.. now my most powerful rig seems to be working on the Aids research with some WU's taking longer now. it is the most complex out of the 3 projects running now. complexity is good for points and less focus on results output.. looking forward to new projects always since the my most powerful rig does them all.. guess this forum will be locked soon and moved to completed.. on to Phase 2 when it is out.. I am sure it will be a year or 2 to keep us all busy.. maybe even longer... |

Hello choj01,
The current guess is that Phase 2 of HCMD will begin in early 2008. . . . . début de l'année 2008. We will have more information when we begin testing the code, but there are going to be several new projects starting before then. Lawrence |

Hi halfcard,
In a sense, Phase 1 did find something interesting. It was intended to validate the approach used by a program that would be used in Phase 2. So Phase 1 was going to be very short. Unfortunately it showed that the Phase 2 program was going to need more extensive revision than we had expected. So Phase 1 was extended to gather more information for the design of the Phase 2 program. Which is why there will be a longer delay before we start Phase 2 than we had originally intended. Lawrence |

if i'm not mistaken, phase 1 was looking for protein interactions in a set of 150 proteins, so my question is did they find any significant interactions? or did they find that phase 1 did not or would not produce any results?

Alessandra Carbone, The Scientist behind the steering wheel of HCMD, registered a forum account yesterday.... so expect her to make a post soon. The very last jobs are still coming in even before lunch time and you will see a few coming in even many weeks after last batch distribution.
----------------------------------------PS. the French nicked HCMD as "Projet Carbone" :D Added: Thursday 14th production: 2:210:06:58:23 CPU time, 952 WU's

Hi Lawrence,
You confirm what I suspected. I concurrently run both BOINC and the UD programs on a few machines and had set HCMD only on the UD preferences. It didn't take long to recognize there was no work available, at which point I reset to include FAAH. A few more days passed without seeing HCMD units and my curiosity led me to this forum. Wonderful that Phase 1 has concluded, I look forward to participating in Phase 2 when/if it is implemented next year. You indicate further on that other programs will be coming online before Phase 2 HCMD is initiated. Can you give us an idea of what to expect and perhaps an overview of those restricted to the UD utility? |
