I have been running 8 systems on 5.8.16 for a few weeks now and until a few days ago everything was working fine. Then, last Thursday, I noticed that one of the systems was working on its last task and did not download a new task until that one was complete. The other systems seemed fine.
----------------------------------------I increased the "Connect to network about every" to 3 days from 2 and watched the queues on the other systems lengthen, but not on this one system. I have twice reset the project. None of this has made any difference. The system is on the default profile along with 3 others and is neither the fastest or slowest system in the group of 4. Does any one have any other suggestions?

Hello David!
----------------------------------------My first idea is for a series of WUs returned in error by this specific system. That would explain at the same time - that the input queue emptied faster than anticipated - that this system is not receiving as many new WUs as it should (because the servers deliver much less WUs to such a system until it begins to return valid WUs regularly). To investigate that you may - browse the messages log of BOINC for this client - filter results on "Error" in your "Results Status" page. I had such a problem once when another program in my machine triggered ZoneAlarm to ask for permission to do something while the system was unattended. It seems that it blocked the communication between the various modules of BOINC and caused several WUs to fall in error at rather high speed. Cheers. Jean. |

It may be as simple as checking your computer clock. If it gets twisted, BOINC gets confused.
----------------------------------------There are several other threads around discussing this type of problem. 2-3 days should be acceptable on network connect time. Have you sent in some error units, making BOINC sulk and reduce your quota?

Well, there is nothing wrong with the date on the system with the problem an there are no tasks listed as having been returned in error. However, I do get the system that fails giving this message after about 2 hours of crunching on a task:
----------------------------------------31/05/2007 15:32:58|World Community Grid|Task lc393_00001_7 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file It restarts and normally finishes successfully, but tonight it gave that message after 2 and 4 hours crunching on the task. Resetting the project has not resolved the issue.

not sure, but if the OS time synchronisation service is set to e.g. 7200 seconds you could get this phenomena like clock work Check the registry key as below:
----------------------------------------Adjust Interval The time interval of the update is set at 7 days. This can be changed in the registry: 1. Start the Registry Editor 2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ W32Time \ TimeProviders \ NtpClient \ 3. Double-click the SpecialPollInterval value, and change the Base of the Value data to Decimal 4. Now change the Value data to the time interval you desire, noting that the time is given in seconds (so for 1 day the value would be 86400, while the default (7 days) is 604800 5. Close the registry editor http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windowsxp/tune-17.html
