Questions regarding BOINC ID Key

Hey all. When I ran BOINC and registered WCG and filled out the username - password form, it didn't ask for my BOINC key. Is this something normal?

Also, what are the differences between WCG and BOINC device profile?

Cheers :)

Re: Questions regarding BOINC ID Key

For several versions now, BOINC hasn't required an account key. It uses your password and member name instead (it still uses the account key internally, and you can use the command line or edit the configuration files to specify the account key if you wish - e.g. if you are doing a mass deployment).

Hopefully, using the username and password makes BOINC easier to use, and less intimidating to new users.

BOINC device profiles are for BOINC, and WCG United Devices device profiles are for the WCG United Devices agents. Two agents, two sorts of profiles. The agents are sufficiently different that they need seperate pages to configure them.

Re: Questions regarding BOINC ID Key

Hi Didactylos. This is weird, I have just checked out my default BOINC profile and found some data has been inputted for me. If I am not mistaken, I have configured separately on my BOINC program to have a different settings compared to what is already there in WCG (e.g. do work only after computer is idle for x minutes, something which I clearly not being able to configure on my BOINC agent). Hope you can help me with this.

Yeah, I agree that having BOINC ID Key makes life tougher! :p

Cheers :)

Re: Questions regarding BOINC ID Key

The settings you make in the agent dialog box override the settings from the website. However, as you noticed, only a few of the options are available in the dialog box.
