My machine is connection to LAN via proxy which requires authentication. I have provided the HTTP proxy details.

Whats wrong?
Why doesnt Bonic read my IE settings and automatically configure itself?

Re: Connection issues

Hi Nits,

Per the members stats you last returned result was: 05/16/2007 01:14:48 [102+ hour(s) ago]

What changed or are you referring to a different machine?

The part that is a problem being on a LAN and behind a proxy (Company?), is usually the secure communications over port 443. The fact that the agent is able to reach the reference site indicates that port 80 is open.

please advise

Re: Connection issues

Difference with the other projects is, that WCG is pretty much the only one requiring secure comms to be permitted on the way out. A way to test if 443 (https) is open, is to log on to e.g. an e-banking site.

Re: Connection issues

I have 2 installations 1 at home which is running WCG fine and 1 at office, which is not able to connect.

What does WCG need 443 when other projects dont?

I have 3 powerfull machines at office, but i guess i wont be able to use them for WCG. Also, I am not aware of other projects, plz suggest me some popular ones.

Thanks for that quick reply.

Re: Connection issues

Port 443 is that extra safety layer to ensure that no malicious traffic can develop and to ensure that Corporations are comfortable in participating but also running projects themselves. Remember WCG sits inside the IBM network. IBM funds the whole server side of the projects (all philanthropic, with results going back to the public domain).

Maybe if you talk to your IT admin or Boss and get them acquainted with the idea of IDLE CPU time Humanitarian or Life Science processing would they approve and facilitate the opening of a gate to IP 129.33.89.133+134 (which goes to the WCG website and project servers). One can even become a partner with WCG.

Other projects: Here's a link that gives most all projects and what they do: http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html

cheers
