Re: Blogspot

Hey
Been so busy, I haven't posted anything, or even checked my email for over a week and a half.
The nice thing about my pain in the head is that for the most part, it doesn't occur but once or twice a year. My aversion to medication is of a voluntary nature. I had a history of self-medicating, if you get my drift...
What really helped was a TENS unit i had to wear for a tailbone injury.Mot something to write to Science Magazine about... but my Doc said if I was getting relief in an area of my bodywhich is a juncture for the nervous system, there is a real possibility of a sympathetic response throughout my body.
Microelectricity to the rescue. That, Tai Chi, and meditation, as well as my dog, and my kid, seems to do the trick. When that rare occurence initiates, two or three Excedrin super strength migraine every 8-12 hours, a blindfold, cold or hot compresses, and absolute quiet gets me through. Once a guy like me crosses that threshold of drug therapy, I'm far better off diving off the Golden Gate, 'cause I'm am no longer a human being. I'm a train wreck moving through everyone's life.I become a human doing...
But, that's my bag, and no one therapy works for everyone. Indeed, we are all better off finding our own way, with guidance, through these difficult chronic pain issues.I like the ground hog story... cool
rose good luck

Re: Blogspot

Hey 7cures. I can relate to the self-medication issue. I got into drugs back in the 80's. This was several years after I had what can only be classified as a nervous breakdown. I got to the point where anything that would alter my so-called "normal" state of mind was fair game. Access was limited only by my budget - which thank god, at the time was rather meager. Some of the things I took did actually help, but weren't feasible as a long term solution. I'm glad to see that the negative attitude toward some of these drugs has begun to dissipate. For example certain psychedelic amphetamines are being tested for certain disorders. I think even LSD is made available to some patients in hospice care.

I was reluctant to get professional help partly because of the stigma and partly because I didn't really believe anything would help. The latter part was in fact true for the first half of the the Pharmacopoeia that I went through. I was immune to tricyclics, SSRI's made me depressed (they're supposed to be ANTI-depressants), amphetamines made me tired, etc. I think I'm doing a little better now because of a combination of supplements and psychotropics, but I'm not going to start celebrating just yet.

Have you tried any nutritional supplements for your migraines? I know the frequency is down to every 6 months or so, but please take a look at Vitamin Shoppe migraine guide. The section on supplements is about halfway down the page (long page though).

As to my personal activities, yesterday, once again, I was a complete slug. Something really irritated my stomach and I had to stay as close to immobile as practical. Did manage to get through some videos though.

Got around to shaving today - don't laugh - that's a big deal.

Either I have to do that more frequently or get a mulching attachment for my razor.
