Hi all,
Please look at http://pastebin.ca/494373 and http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/8798/boincmanagertasksuf9.png . I don't always have the net up. Now as one can see the old task is only till 78.5% complete then why does boinc client want to go & have updates. It should do that only when its nearing completion like 97%-98% . Don't also understand the "Task lb926_00064_15 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file. " Please lemme know where I am reading wrong or doing something wrong. |

BOINC is not programmed to pull work just before finishing a job! It's programmed to keep so much work in the buffer as per the 'Connect To' setting which by default is 7.2 hours (0.3 days). If the agent computes that remaining work is the Tasks queue + the Job in progress Time to Complete (TTC) is less, it will go out to fetch new work. You can reduce this connecting by setting the profile to fetch 1.0 days work and select a networking schedule like for instance one of my machines has from 18:00am to 19:00am. Only in that block will the agent send results back and fetch new work.
----------------------------------------Presently we can only set 1 schedule for all days, but v 5.10 will have a daily varying schedule. Wait for the "Recommended" release which is still some months away. WCG will tell when it thinks it's okay to upgrade. When looking in messages in BOINC, don't consider isolated lines on their own. Sure you had a line after that which said "If this happens frequently......" And that's exactly what it means. In reality it is a rather benign warning which has a number of causes like the Windows Operating System doing a time synchronize.

Ok, didn't know that. If the agent computes that remaining work is the Tasks queue + the Job in progress Time to Complete (TTC) is less, it will go out to fetch new work. If I understand you right, if the client computes that work to complete is less than 7.2 hrs. it tries to go out and get more work. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You can reduce this connecting by setting the profile to fetch 1.0 days work and select a networking schedule like for instance one of my machines has from 18:00am to 19:00am. Only in that block will the agent send results back and fetch new work. Now how did u do that? That would be useful. Presently we can only set 1 schedule for all days, but v 5.10 will have a daily varying schedule. Wait for the "Recommended" release which is still some months away. WCG will tell when it thinks it's okay to upgrade. That's cool. When looking in messages in BOINC, don't consider isolated lines on their own. Presume Linux does Synchronize Time too? No I dont know all the conditions of the top of my head why that message appears, but unless you get reams of them "If this happens Frequently...." in minute or second intervals just ignore them. The next version will have a few causes removed from the conditions that prints this.... only confuses novices. The UBW has an article for your reading pleasure: Zero Status
----------------------------------------Setting the schedule is done in the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile. For the buffer size find the line in the Network Usage section which usually has the a Connect To..... value 0.3 or 0.1 days MFAQ: Most Frequenly Asked Questions is covered in "Help", the "Start Here" forum and e.g. the BOINC FAQ link in my signature.
