Re: Will rising sea levels increase volcanism?

Lol ! laughing

OK chuckles - check out http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19025531.300;jsessionid=KPFKPKABKCJJ

I'm not ready to spend $4 for the article, but the preview makes it pretty clear that the idea is NOT completely absurd. Is it a bit of a stretch? Maybe. But that's why I'm throwing it out there.

The earth's crust is fairly elastic. In many places it's also pretty thin. Magma is even more plastic but still very viscous. If you push on it in one place, it's not too hard to believe that it will try to pop out someplace else.

Re: Will rising sea levels increase volcanism?

The Maharishi Yogi made no Boo Boo..... he got to get his followers to contribute enough money for him to procure a parking lot full of Rolls Royce and live transcendentally happy for ever.

But the Maharishi understands that we are all one with everything. So the cars belong to all of us too. We are the cars and the cars are us. What seems like a shameless and vulgar excercise in conspicuous consumption is actually an object lesson designed to lead us to a higher truth.

Meditate on it for a few decades and you'll understand.

PS - personally I would have gone with a fleet of Ferrari Enzo's, but then I'm not a bhodisatva.

They would somehow miracously escape and live happily ever after.

Reminds me of an old Frank Zappa lyric.

Is Hare Rama really wrong
If you wander around
With a napkin on
With a bell on a stick
An' your hair is all gone...
(The geek shall inherit nothin') smile

Re: Will rising sea levels increase volcanism?

Take Yellowstone for example. Scientists have noticed rising ground levels in the area of an ancient caldera. Couldn't increased pressure in the Atlantic and Pacific push the crust down into the mantle and cause magma to be directed to potential hot spots.

I live close enough to Yellowstone to be buried if it exploded.
I have read many articles on the subject, none of them seem to have any hard facts, just a lot of what ifs.
I don't think mankind has nearly the power over global warming that many try to claim we do.
There was warming & cooling many times before the first factory or car was ever built.
If Algore wants to take the blame, fine; but leave me out of it (and don't raise my taxes or charge me extra to implement 'green' policies that probably will have little to do with the outcome of world ecology in the long run).
