Do you like this Slogan

Hi Graham

Yes I like the Slogan. God is a Generic enough word for me.
I also think that any slogan has an appeal to like minded groups.
The trick is to come together as accepting our differences.
Not using diversity divisively. But as the Next level to be gained in
acceptance of each New difference as a celebrated part of the Whole.
We have an opportunity to bond and respect in blind trust of each other.
What more do we need than the knowledge we are together on the same
Great Works. I sure Grid computing will catch way way beyond the present
World level. We, are pioneers in research along with the Customers that
we will choose to serve. IBM has committed to 10,000,000 Devices alone.
We need a Big Community (But Neutral) Slogan.
Finally my entry, tongue

World Community Grid,
We, are the World!

“I know!” “I know!” But I have nothing better to do with my time either!

Re: Do you like this Slogan

biggrin Well Guys

Thank you all for your enthusiasm
It's great to see a group of members working together as a community
As Ripcat said, see what we can accomplish when we work together
We may even get some more feedback from a few more of the like minded members here
And as Robert comically put it: "I know" "I know" but I have nothing to do with my time either
Well you have all proven that it is time well spent
We should list them all in one thread and submit them to WCG for inspection
Lets look on the bright side and hope that they take notice of our efforts
It's better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all

Please keep those suggestions coming in

Best Regards

Technology Solving Problems

I think that the quote is OK but may imply that there is only one superior being called God. Obviously, there are many people here on WCG who are not Christian.

Let the comments/flames commence devilish biggrin devilish

but would that make the statement any less true..?

It depends upon what your truth is.

It may not be any less true for you, but how "true" would the slogan be for YOU if the WCG slogan began with any of the following:

It is the privilege of The Gods to conceal things...
It is the privilege of the Goddess to conceal things...
It is Buddah's privilege to conceal things...
It is Allah's privilege to conceal things...
It is Nature's privilege to conceal things....
It can not be known whether there is a supreme being with the privilege to conceal things...

I agree that the "God's privilege" slogan implies one God, and I think therefore it is a bit exclusive. However, it might be a fine slogan for a number of teams on the grid, but I would like to see any WORLD community grid slogan a bit more inclusive. The grid includes those of many differing beliefs, and more than two-thirds of the world's population are not christian. After all, it was upsetting enough when some people felt that the grid was excluding Cuba. biggrin

I personally think that any slogan should deal with finding the "biological truths" and is best served by excluding any reference to any possible "religious truths".

I actually would prefer the WCG use a more neutral slogan such as"Technology Solving Problems" ... peace

Re: Technology Solving Problems

I'm in agreement with Boy on that one....

I think we could use something more fun though...maybe

"Crunching for humanity" or "Crunch for humanity" or "The Crunch for humanity"...I just like the world crunch though.

hehe...we should call ourselves "Porteum Crunchers"

Re: Do you like this Slogan

I like ripcat's idea, however, instead for humankind, I personally like it as mankind... it's 1 syllable shorter... wink biggrin

Anything shorter would be better for me---as i can only type with one finger --depending on the circumstances!!! smile tongue

“It is God's privilege to conceal things, but the WorldCommunityGrid’s pride is to research them.''

Kinda thin actually, stays right on the surface, Not Deep!
I know you wont like the sound of this next comment, but...

It's phrases like this that get left on the editors floor as useless filler without any conveyance of feeling or meaning to them. If you are to come up with a "slogan" it should be shorter and carry thrice the meaning of just the text itself.

"WorldcommunityGrid's pride is to research them" should be conveyed in a more meaningful way like: "Unlocking the Secrets", or "Exploring the unimaginable"

No Disrespect - Just answering your question as you asked us to.

Hmmmm I kind of like the Slogan but as already stated it is not universal enough...
Personal I am no member of any religius society of any kind, but I respect the ones who do and live by it.

Therfore I would like to suggest the following adjustment on the slogan:

“It is your God's privilege to conceal things, but the WorldCommunityGrid’s pride is to research them.''

Altough english is not my natural lanquage and my knowledge of religions is fairly limitted, I'll recon that there are no religions locked out by this slogan.

That my 2 cruches on the subject

Hey Hemphill68 a.k.a. Marketing Guy

In case you didn't read the whole thread(as it has evolved beyond Graham's original post), how about this slogan:

World Community Grid, computing together for the future of humanity!

Just curious,
Ripcat
