Hello,
My question is "What would be the advantage to allocating a larger portion of HDD space to the application?". I currently have 1Gb of HDD space allocated to the WCG Proteome Folding application. I have much more HDD space that I could allocate, if there were any advantage or significant reason to do so. FWIW I am currently running the WCG-PF application on the following hardware: Asus A7V8X-X Mainboard (Bios rev. 9) AMD Athlon 2600+ (2083mhz) 1Gb PC2700 DDR RAM 80Gb HDD (ATA-133 w/ 8Mb cache) ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128Mb AGP TIA for any advice or comments. GAH! I knew I should have installed to my applications partition. I have a 160GB drive with 2 partitions on both my 2800+ boxes...1 for Windows/Drivers/Etc @ 10GB, and 1 for applications @ 150GB. I'm getting stiffed on my points because I get a 20 score on the Storage Performance. :/
I'm gonna unistall/reinstall after this next WU. |

Regarding the above, I've searched around and can't find anything although I may have missed it, but if I modify the storage to the max of 10GB, how much of that space will actually be used?
I've checked the WCG folder and my temp folders and don't see any temp files or other files who's size is of any consequence. Bottom line, if someone allocates 10GB on a 50GB drive that only has 4GB free, will it become an issue? Thanks. |

I have my storage set to the max of 10GB and just checked and found that the WorldCommunityGrid folder has only used 21 Meg on my system. I am not sure how to answer your second question regarding allocating 10GB when there is only 4GB free. My guess is that it will work, at least for now with the current project. It could certainly become an issue if some project off in the future needs more space than you have available. |

Excellent, thanks for the reply. As stated earlier I'm moving my install to a larger partition so it really shouldn't be an issue. Just curious about how much space it could potentially use as are some of my teammates.

My directory is also 21Mb in size so I guess that this would be standard across most people.
Regarding setting it to 10Gb when there is less, I have the agent installed on two machines. My profile is configured to use 10Gb. However, on one of the machines, I have the agent installed on a partition that only has 7Gb and when I bring up the preferences window, it shows maximum storage as 7Gb. I would guess that the agent does a check to see what the maximum physical size is and uses that. |
