The above responders have given you some good reasons that there should be more than one grid. I suppose not unlike having more than one company supplying cars or airplanes or whatever. It is the competition and differing goals and objectives that keep the whole thing healthy. I believe this.

I also believe however that the grid.org is being run by some poor decision makers that are willing to waste enormous resources just to hold on to users. I was a pretty large contributor to that organization (over 18 years of CPU) when I found that they were wasting resources intentionally. The discussion of this can be found HERE

It is for that reason, that I quit grid.org and moved to the WCG. If you are considering which grid to join, I would suggest that you choose one that has not yet at least been shown to be deceitful with its contributors and willing to waste enormous resources for its own benefit.
